ROUND #158 :: THE GREEN FAIRYDESCRIPTION
"I'm the Green Fairy!"
This one has been requested a few times, so here you are. The personification of absinthe, often referred to as "The Green Fairy".
Illicit, mysterious, and often thought of as an aphrodisiac and narcotic (both of which probably aren't true), the Green Fairy was a symbol for artists around the turn of the century.
Let's see your own interpretations. Keep in mind you don't have to do this in any specific way - If you don't want to glamorize drinking, feel free to make her the villain in the piece. Think she's treated unfairly? Make her the hero.
Just keep in mind she is Absinthe Personified, so you will want to tie in elements into your drawing to make that clear.

I foresee much art nouveau in this thread
Ooooh, would anybody mind if I gave this one a shot? Working with a "green" palette sounds like a fun challenge.
'Cuz life is full of your regrets, and I should be one...
ha awesome topic, will try and see if i can get time to do this this week... depending on my schedule....
im also presuming its a she considering youve referred to it as a she poshspice?
Oooh, great topic. Will try to get something in for this.
I'm loving the designs so far. That glass one reminds me of Dita von Teese a lot.
Ultra rough sketch of the idea I have... thinking the Green Fairy leaves the bohemian scene in disgrace, partially blind from all that absinthe abuse, with a sugar cube hat/veil, and a pair of dress ribbons designed like those serving spoons in place of wings (am I allowed to do that? >_>).
Absinthe rulez, burning absinthe is better...:-)
Here is my first wip called "Happy drivers drink absinthe :-)

ello all, this is actually my first try on a chow xD
so here's my wip, absynthe fairy serving some. It's more of a closeup for now, will draw legs and stuff..later =)
Starting a new job tomorrow (finally!) so lets celebrate with a green fairy! It will be wine actually, but hey I actually need to be able to do something tomorrow.
Nice sketches everyone
Pixeltuner ; Congrats on the job, and cool green fairy. I like the design on the dress.
I have some ideas, will try them out later in the week.
And will probably end up not using any green, except from one tiny place.
thank you and thank you I'm trying see how far I can go using only somewhat shades of green.
wip... decided to do some quick thumbnail sketches to develop some ideas ...
Pixeltuner... eindje grrr?! congrats.
Yooo Dirk, nice thumbs. Some creepy stuff suits you well instead of the cute ones
But no, I'm going to be working at Virtual Fairground for 2 months before I start in Eindje.
Hey Pixeltuner, thats looking dope and I say go as far as possible with the monochromatic green colors, and then wait till the very end to add some red somewhere, some reflected light or some accent and watch it explode like a firecracker, or a flame donkey...
Anyways here's my idea, I have a feeling we'll see a lot of very similar characters this round (and maybe some Matt Dixon if lucky), but I'm trying to get in early to call dibs haha
And yeah, she is eliminating sweet nectar from her nether region.

Yet another topic that would just feel wrong to miss out on...
I also decided to go cheesecake, albeit cute and harmless (Absinthe glazed cheesecake; om nom nom). This time, I will go with traditional media only: I just hope my scanner will do an okay job with the colours.
I will probably add an absinthe spoon in the BG because I'm not sure my cartoony wormwood leaves are recognizable enough...
fersteger: that's indeed a nice idea. put a sweet contrasting lightsource offscreen, and it watch everything go SHEBANG! or something like that...
Does this character have to be a female fairy? I was going to work on the idea that absinthe inspires creativity and borderline madness. The personification of this in my mind would be Vincent van Gogh. Here is a quick WIP with that sort of theme in mind. If I could get the official word on the rules for this CHOW that would be cool. Thanks.
Awesome topic Yayayyaay i'm drinking some absinthe right now haha!
NoShot, I like the idea behind it but i think it would be a bit off topic? But i'm not Deastwen!
Great sketches already everyone!
Here's my attempt.. experimentation on this one... *_*
History has portrayed the fairy as both male and female, but I guess in the most known artwork it's been a female.
So far liking Pixeltuners, fersteger and Clochettes, especially Clochettes!
