    Trials

Thought i'd contribute on this side of the community. I just picked up sketchup, and even through all the errors and messy-ness, im learning.

More as i get them completed.

Crits and comments more than welcome !

    hi DanielC,
    nice design on that tank=)
what do you think of sketchup?
i find it pretty easy and intuitive for the most part but also kinda frustrating,
making a sphere shouldnt need to be that complex... etc etc..

when looking at your tankdesign i remember IDW #97:
we really should have something like Industrial Design of the Week
    for the sketchup-forum also.

    keep the good stuff coming!

they are some really top models there mate, keep working your definitely on your way.

Summed it up for me right there, for what Sketchup is good at, its really good at, simplistic-ness, intuitive, and basic, however simple objects and other functions are either missing or unbearably difficult to create, the latter is what deters me from supporting it fully..

Sweet tank. For some reason the first thing I thought when I saw it was "Millennium Falcon". Haha. It's good to see the level sketchup can be taken to though. Nice job.

rattus, well, so far its awesome. Simple, easy to understand and handle, and the transition to kerkythea (?) is pretty smooth. So far the only problem i've had with it is the camera that sticks to parts instead of moving freely through space, but at the same time it helps at getting in focus to specifics. And yeah, an activity would be cool. :] thanks !

    SHAP00PI, thanks !

Ghostbrush, yup, loads of fun man, give it a try !

Swampdigger, lol, i didnt think of that, but since i grew up with star wars, those shapes must've stick in my sub conscience :]

here's another one, still working on it, details and stuff..

hey, humm no, its just 3d practice. Just to change my mindset from the whole 2d thing. I might try one of those sometime though :] and, by sticky-ness (on my blog) i meant the cam's cursor focus thing, but i was being stupid and impatient.

Not fimiliar with scetchup but does it have a bevel function? Some of your edges are very sharp, a slight bevel would make them catch light or a highlight and make em more real.
    Great work tho otherwise!

I think I know what you mean by sticky-ness - and I belive it's a hardware glitch. Try playing around with OpenGL settings in the preferences menu. Turning off and on some of the features. It also happens when you have a lot of components in one file and which are spread too widely and you try to zoom in on one of them. Hiding some of the elements or components that you want to keep in the file but are not working on at the moment may also help.
