    What's your typical day like?

So I'm curious how people here spend their time. How do you go about fitting in study time, practice time, life, work, sleep and all that in the measly 24 hours a day. I'm wondering what kinda sacrifices in what areas people are making to get the time to practice and work on the awesome stuff they work on. It's hard for me to see how people work full time, and still produce such amazing stuff.

My weekdays are pretty much the same everyday, get up at 630, excercise/workout/eat, drive to work from 8-9, work as a concept artist till 6, I try to squeeze in as much time during work to practice and study what I need to improve. Then work on usually practice stuff like color study, anatomy, observational drawing till 8, drive home till 9, dinner, gf time, and hopefully read for a bit then sleep at 11.

Anybody else waste 2 hours a day in traffic? I'm seriously trying to get my skills to where they need to be and cutting out every little thing that isn't helping. How do you all do it?

Oh yeah and how do you stay motivated? lol kidding

That drive sucks. I know people that drive more than that so they can afford a huge house. I'll stick with my tiny house and 20 minute drive.

Getting up at 8am, shower, good breakfast. Then getting my stuff for art school together and walking 20 minutes to said art school (here in Firenze that's actually faster than using a car). Spending three hours life drawing in art school. Then walking home for lunch. Mostly ramen. Then walking back to another studio of the same art school and working on a copy of a cast, using charcoal, for three hours. Then walking home, cooking and eating dinner. Wasting time on the interwebs or digitally painting, working on commissions. I go to bed around 11pm.

Get up. Start the computer. Surf around a bit. Eat breakfast. Draw for a while. Make dinner for my family. Draw some more. Chat a bit. Watch a movie or something. Sleep.

I think I need one of them jobs...

Totally agree. I feel really lost without a pencil and paper so I take my sketchbook with me everywhere and sketch whenever I can.

    Tis a good feeling

I get up at 6:10, check the news on the net (cnn, npr, nytimes) get ready for work (I teach English). I drive to work, check the schedule for changes. I get there early most days, even if I have the first few periods free, so I have time to grade tests, and prepare any special exercises that students may need.

I go through each class. Right now the best ones are teh 4th years, because they already have their grades done, and there's nothing left to teach, as they prepare for final, oral exams in other subjects. So, I just play music for them and draw portraits.

School ends around 1:30. I usually teach more English somewhere afterschool. There's usually time to drive home in between and see if Andrew's awake or napping (2 year old son). It used to be when I got home it was already dark out, and I'd just sit in front of the computer, read more news, check some forums, and draw. Now it's sunnier out so I usually take Andrew out and we play in the yard, or walk around town. Then, when it's dark, I sit in front of the computer and vegetate. Hopefully once I get my old art files back I'll get back into drawing again.

I'm an out of shape, unemployed 36 year old living with his mother. I spend my afternoons sitting in the backroom drawing superheroes, mostly just to complete the cliche. Chicks dig it.

    this is how it was

wake up - college - home - waste hours doing jack shit maybe make some art every few days probably not thoughmaybe throw in gym too - sleep more or less every day

    now its more like

wake up - dont go to college cos' that shits balls, im just too cool - get out of bed and go slightly insane because i have no structure - overcome previous insanity and make art - waste time - sleep - throw in work when i can get it, and then ripping up da club on friday and saturday

    what it will be like

wake up - go do manual labour job (finger crossed somone dies of swine flu because i really really want that job) - 3 mile walk home - get home maybe do weight depending on how much ive lifted if i need it - go to studio and make art - make music - kill some time - sleep

there, its written, now it shall happen!

    It used to be:
    - Wake up an hour before my first class and stumble into the shower
    - Check email, stare into space for 20min
    - Meet my friends in the kitchen and grab toast, hang around in there until late for class
    - Walk the 2 minutes to whatever class I have
    - An hour later, walk the 2 minutes back again. Repeat walk to classes as necessary throughout the day.
    - Essential food shopping
    - Draw/paint/do studies until 11pm or so
    - Play Left 4 Dead with my friends
    - Draw some more and waste time on the internet
    - Fall asleep at 3am

Now, it's pretty much that, only without the classes.

Wake up, breakfast while watching the news, smoke a lot, work on art, clean the house and sort out meals for my mum, continue into evening.

Two main exceptions would be the days I go into work and the Sundays where more time is spent drinking wine than doing anything productive.

There are occasional meetings with friends but not very frequent. I've withdrawn socially over the last six months for a few reasons.

I don't have a regular day. Sometimes I work as a film extra. Days when I work on that I'm up at 4.30 a.m. spend time hanging around waiting to do something, swap jokes, gossip, draw, drive home, sleep.

Other times I take on temporary work, including call centre stuff when real work is quiet. I hate call centre work. 12 hour shifts are not unusual.

My "real" work; I do research (constantly), meet people, tell stories, entertain, get home and draw.

It's never boring, but sometimes it's hard to juggle it all

Listen to the alarm, get up, take a shower, dress and turn off the alarm, eat breakfast, go to the office for work, go to campus to architecture school, return home at night, bring work with me and continue on, the rest of the night is either playing a little Fallout 3, or just on the internet, sleep.

Saturdays is beer day, but only for a little while.

On a leisurely summer day like today:

If my mom is going to work, I get up, breakfast, shower, and drive her to the bus station at 10:00am-ish. If she isn't, I keep sleeping until 1:00pm. I don't have a regular day schedule. I just alternate between drawing, playing video games, and compulsively checking the news on the internet every couple of hours. Maybe go for a bike ride or something to get a bit of exercise. Make myself a sandwich somewhere in there. Eat dinner with my family sometime between 5:00 and 7:00. If it's a Tuesday or Thursday, I have a few hours of summer classes after that. If not, I continue the drawing/internet/news cycle unless my friends are in town, in which case I party with them for a bit (this does not happen nearly enough). I then do whatever until 5 or 6am, when the sun lights up the sky again and I go "Crap. I should probably get some sleep". Then I do.

...I need to get a job.

    Monday to Friday.
5.30 am get up, switch computer on, go make coffee, check emails, read forums. Finish forums, start to draw.
6.30 get kids up, get dressed, make packed lunches, draw some more.
    7.30 leave house for work.
5.30 pm arrive home, switch on computer, read emails, check forums, draw.
6.30 cook dinner, talk to available kids, eat dinner, then draw
    10.30 go to bed.

    Weekend
6.30 am get up (woot a lie in), switch on computer, go make coffee, read forums.
    Finish forums, start to draw.
    8.45 weekly shop.
    10.00 draw
    12.00 make lunch, check forums
    Rest of day draw.
6.30 make dinner, check forums, draw.
During the above I will do the laundry, it’s called stretching your legs.
    10.30 go to bed.

The house is a bit of a tip, but that’s what holidays are for, and doing DIY. It’s taken some time to get there, but I’m now doing as much art in my “spare” time as my real life job, with a husband and kids. Not only that, but I’m working harder in my real job as well.
