    CS4 GPU problems-brush lag

I've been using the CS4 64 bit trial and it works great, except it didn't detect my gpu, so no rotate tool. I updated my gpu driver and OpenGL now works but it's really laggy when just using a basic 7pt brush at 600dpi. I went to preferences and turned off OpenGL/restarted PS. Still laggy. Tried increasing the ram allowed for photoshop, and it still lags.

Is there a way to fix this without searching for and older version of the driver? Before I could work at the same size all day and never see lag, but now, it's barely usuable. I checked the device manager to rollback the driver, but that's not an option.

    system specs:

    Dell laptop

    T6400 @2.0ghz
    4Gb Ram
    intel 4500mhd graphics
    Vista 64-bit
    PS CS4 64-bit

Im sorry to say, but you've landed in the graphics card grey zone. Intel have been working for more than year to fix bugs with their graphics card driver, and they are still failing to come up with a proper solution.

However some reports are also suggesting that this can be a windows aero problem. Try turning off Desktop Composition in Vista
Computer > Properties > Advanced System Settings > Performance Settings

That's the only thing I can think of if it's not a driver problem. Most other problems with CS4 lag relates to nvidia or ATI cards.

I had brush lag even after the patch, but this guy's suggested settings largely fixed it for all but really big brushes
