    Eagle Rank Get!

Well, not entirely, everything was turned in the day before my 18th birthday and now I'm just waiting to hear back from them so I can do my board of review and finally get it. So freaking stoked!

Supposedly, it's customary for my parents to ask famous people I like to send me congratulations (it really does sound self absorbed...) and my mom wants to know who I want. So CA, if you could have a famous person congratulate you for something, who would you want?

He's referring to the Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts. It is a great honor, congrats!

congratulations. i have mixed emotions about the BSA, but thats another story. it'll give you a good thing to mention on your resume and college applications/scholorships.

as far as famous people you admire i would suggest: e. honda from street fighter, the cookie monster, chris benoit, and president george w bush. your mom should get the hint.

such is why we now say "a scout is reverent in his own right". the mention of "god" is on the same par as it's position in the pledge of allegiance, and remains completely optional. The only other religious connection we scouts have is "reverent" in the scout law, and the addition of services for some camping trips (again optional).

I'm completely atheist, and I got approved

The Curran case is a little off the wall by today's standards, no-one can be removed of past achievements, and they only way they can be barred is acting out on it or talking about it (which to my understanding Curran never did, which I'd fight for him against the bigot leaders of his area any day).

    I'm just sayin'
(For the record, I've done work for the BOA, who, at least those that I've dealt with directly, are lovely people who do a lot of good in the world. But on these two issues they are absolutely and totally wrong, and no amount of excuse making and special pleading will change that.)

Congratulations on getting something I could never get. I don't think I ever passed the first rank...

As for who to ask, I'm with the Christopher Walken consensus. It is pretty weak to have to ask for a congratulatory note though.

I'd be happy with a congrats from any of the people on this site. That being said, congrats! Did you get the art merit badge?

    not-surprisingly, yes, haha.

and for everyone else, technically I'm not asking for congratulations, I have to tell my parents who to ask. I expect it would be somewhere along the lines of "Dear Mr. Walken, yadda yadda yadda, my song got eagle, he's a big fan, can you send him a congrats so we can present it to him? etc. etc." If it was up to me, I wouldn't even write... just seems pointless to ask for it for yourself...

From one Eagle to another, well done and congratulations. If I understand your question, you are asking who I would want to receive congratulations from?
Personally, I would be ecstatic to get anything from Frank Frazetta.
I suggest making a unique and personal gift using your knowledge as an Eagle to guide you. Make something which is a genuine result of your respect and admiration for the person you choose. Have your mom send it, and if nothing happens, at least you had fun making the thing and the enjoyment of knowing you did something cool for someone you like.

Yes, because this is totally an excuse for a human rights violation...

They don't admit atheists either. They won a big lawsuit over that. Private clubs can discriminate based on religion.

my entire troop was mormon, other than myself. being named 'Joseph Smith' in a mormon troop won me a lot of favors. i'm not sure if they started to get more preachy as i got older, or if i was gradually just becoming more aware of all the weird behavior. my friends were cool, and we just wanted to do cool scout shit, but everything became assosciated to god, and the bible became more important than the scout handbook.

i spent over half my childhood in scouts, i did all the camps and learned a bajillion knots and ways to build a fire, it was a lot of fun. its a shame some people cannot put their god aside and accept others into their club.

i was never able to get eagle rank and was very intentionally pushed aside because i did not subscribe to the ideology being taught. being able to achieve eagle would have been nice, but i feel i learned my own lesson in the end.
