Oddities (we all need a laugh)

There's an exhibition in the UK where a Swedish artist whose name starts with S (sorry, can't be more specific; the house went noisy when his name was mentioned) has an exhibit valued at £15,000.

The exhibit? Half a dozen bananas. Nothing done to them. Not even on a plate; just placed on a white windowsill. I tried to google it to find a link, but no luck. I swear I'm not kidding you, though.

Just think; if you have 3 bananas, that's £7,500. They don't even need to be signed.

The reason I couldn't hear the artist's name was because my husband said "WHAAAAAAAT????"

I've been looking too but can't find it...so now I hijack your post and it's all about ODD NEWS (until I find your story):

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090422/od_nm/us_bra
DETROIT (Reuters) - A 57-year-old Detroit woman avoided serious injury when the underwire on her bra deflected a bullet shot at her from next door, police said.

I don't have cable, Arshes, so it had to be on STV , BBC or Channel 4 news, but I can't find it on their sites. Did find these, though....

I would say this is the point that postmodernism finally jumped the shark. But we've already seen the shark, in formaldehyde. Maybe this is the point at which postmodernism showed the banana? Its already gone with a toilet, pinched off a giant clothespin, wall-whored a soup can, laid our presidents end to end, darkened a wall with a black canvas, blanketed a blankety-blank gallery with a blank canvas, and non-metaphorically crapped in a can.

Clearly, the postmodernists lack of shame is shameless. But by saying that I have inadvertantly produced an advertisement for them, alas.

If you like the outrage, keeping complaining. Because, fyi, the complaint itself is an advertisement for "more please."

Mongo just pawn in game of life.

Thanks, Baron! I've been looking for that link. I missed the guy's name because my husband (who's a fine artist) said "WHAAAAT" then turned the air blue while I collapsed in a heap of laughter.

It's been a rough day: i needed the laugh!

    From the article:

"With the ripening bananas having to be replaced every few days (a bunch of six costs 72p at Tesco), the value of Slominski's work lies in the artist's certificate, Mr Asprey explained."

So where can I get these infamous artist's certificates? Or better yet, sign one?

I'll make you one in my name, Asa! (I'll throw in the first six bananas for free,- they're DIFFERENT bananas; so there'd be no infringement of copyright)

Also, what is with the "urine-injected" part of the article? That part completely baffled me.

Good job, Arty McArterson....I'm sure that was your intent all along, eh?

I'm sorry, but you'd really have to be a dumbass to think six bananas could weigh ... oh nevermind. If they keep changing the bananas how do you which ones are worth £15,000? What do you end up selling? ...and when they replenish the bananas does the "artist" go to the Pigly Wigly and pick out which bananas are the masterpiece?

Read The Painted Word by Thomas Wolfe and stop bothering about it. You're wasting breath.

"Fine" is a word which has been politicized by repetitive incorrect usage. As a political word, its sole purpose is to confer value upon the object chosen by the political priesthood, and to differentiate the chosen object from shunned objects.

There is no reason you should conform to the wishes of the political priesthood. If you want to call concept art fine art, go right ahead. I'll join you.

I think it's still art... 'The art of making money of rabndom incomprehesible shit'

And I say congratulation for the talent to all of these artists... Because selling a bunch of bananas for £150,000 is truly a feat.
