Your landscapes are fantastic; there's such a grounded sense of space in them. I've always found space difficult to capture right, so kudos to you for nailing it!

I should preface with: I really don't know anything about painging landscapes and this is just what I've observed. With that in mind, one suggestion I would have is maybe to be more deliberate with your sketching (I know, it's ironic as you told me to be less deliberate with my sketches, haha. Maybe sketching with focused line placing is just how I roll.) I feel like some of the form is lost in the Charles Bridge piece that could easily be regained by making the shapes more definite.

hey I forgot to mention something, bob ross - the joy of painting. hes a landscape painter who produced a instructional how to paint series, hes on a lot of public access channels(check your local listings, hes still on). I found one of his video on you tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phQPrG28xD4

with the comment, you dont really match values, you paint them relative to one another, The canvas dosent have the ability to match values(though I think 'matching was just your phrasing).

Its a good thing you mentioned that though because their are a couple concepts that might help, chroma and color temperature. Their both pretty similar, but the key concept here is that color has inherit value yellow and cyan are the brightest and blue and red are the darkest(put very simply, look at the 'I draw girls blogspot' chart).

The candle you are working on is a excellent application of color temperature, at the core where its brightest its a yellow/white, and then goes into a deeper orange and given the opportunity eventually red. you also may notice that grass turns yellow when it get bright, the sky goes form cyan to blue as it get dark and so on. you can get away with ignoring it a little more with digital but when you work with paint from a limited number of tubes, you have to use the colors value to your advantage.

look at the chart here, and observe in photos how the hue shifts from light to dark.
    http://idrawgirls.blogspot.com/2008/...e-warm-vs.html

    some hefty info on color.
    http://www.huevaluechroma.com/index.php

hopefully that should be of some help, using bright yellows and dark blues, etc should help with you values.

hey guys Live sketch while at a Coffee shop feels good..

got some crazy Pen with a giant tip almost like a marker thats how i got the pallet knifeish strokes

keeping my sketches up everyday also spent an hour on a Black to White value strip with charcoal and pastel il post soon

the pic turned out all yellowish bad lighting the brown pen marks are more black in real life paper is still a creamy color

    need more line economy

also the text on the cover of my sketchbook is "Great art has dreadful manners. the greatest paintings grab you in a headlock, rough up your composure, then proceed in short order to re-arrange your reality" great quote from the mind of Simon Schama

hey guys sorry about being a bit late on the update i was sick but am feeling better today so i spent 7 hours on this landscape art Installation i started as soon as the Tide starts going out... i live in a place with famed "highest tides" the whole installation will be under water at high tide i plan to take pictures with different water levels as this "rises from the depths"

hopefully it wont get wrecked -_-

i know it might not be "CA material" but apparently artschool administration people love to see Installation work it shows working outside the classroom with problem solving spacially and conceptually

hope everyone is doing awesome !

not sure how the intent to study anatomy turned in
to this but seems like this will be something to work on and flesh out

il do some more thumbnails and sketch out some more things
before i work with it but im pretty excited ^ ^

(was just drawing that little statue and it turned in to
this haha , shows me for drawing small ! )

also a quick Perspective grid of what i think might go down

Wooo back home , Hope everybody is doing super awesome ... back from Chicago trip was frickin awesome , the Portfolio Review at SAIC was rockin i got some great feedback as far as thinking and story telling with my work goes

in the review process they sign a paper for a few things and the person Reviewing my work (Helen was her name ) so a couple cool things she did one is (My Portfolio portion of my application is accepted as long as they get the rest before the application dead lines ) and more consideration for the School's Merit Scholarship award as long as i submit my application before Feb 15

so that was super awesome , She also suggested i work on Submitting some work for the portfolio/2d/4d AP Exam courses because if i score Highly on them at least for this school and many others it pays for Class credits based on the score

im not a fan of having artwork sent in to be "scored" but $$$ are $$$$ and i think i have a good chance on a few for high scores

i have decided to quit Gaming to work on my art for the next 5 months

so pretty much my trip to Chicago was super awesome

saw many great works at the Art institute

(first pic is me standing next to the super awesome reflective sculpture at Millenium Park the whole park just blew me away i spent a good 3 hours or so there just pondering the amazing sculpture and set up )

so now im super pumped and inspired to dedicate the rest of my life to the arts, adventure , truth ALRIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

Live the dream ladies and gents also KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT !

Anyone else going to national portfolio day in Toronto November 15th ??

oh and check my friggen awesome new hat

    some figure gesture construction study

from an Imagine FX issue the artist builds the body out of Cylinders its pretty cool

because you can add planes to a cylinder and achieve depth and form without having to apply too much Perspective

blue added after i scanned in just for clearness
