    There's a Gathering Storm...

Okay, so most of you have seen the absolute FAIL that spawns from the anti-gay ad sent out there by NOM (if not, have a laugh at this)

but man this is one of the best things I've seen yet. A group of pretty well-known actors came together to do this parody, which really needs to get some serious air time haha.
    SKETCHBOOK COMING SOON!

I CANT USE CUSTOM PICTURES IN A SIG?! PREPOSTEROUS!

As much as I love that video, the best part is that NOM forgot the meaning of satire and actually thanked Stephen Colbert for the fake ad.

The "gathering storm" phrase just makes me think of men in thongs dancing to "It's Raining Men". I found both parodies hilarious.

Or you can believe in Capitalism and hire immigrants for minimum wage. Or, if you're feeling naughty, hire illegal immigrants for below minimum wage.

Sometimes it looks like Olberman is gonna break down emotionally when he gives his little speeches. I'm also waiting for him to miss which camera is on and talk in the wrong direction. But, I find myself very much in agreement with his sentiment.

As for the NOM 'Gathering Storm' video... its stupidity level is already at max, so I think the parodies actually only manages to dilute that.

Prometheus|ANJ has hit the nail on the head. The NOM video is so pathetically stupid that it is its own parody!

    Echo chamber.

I mean really.. Who is this parody meant to persuade? Surely not people sympathetic to the original commercial.

It's just highlighting how ridiculous and thin the original commercial was. It's not meant to persuade but rather mock. These anti-gay organizations are finally coming to the conclusion that there is no actual reason for the marriages to not exist other than homophobia and that it is * " " written in the bible that it is unholy. " " * Instead they make commercials with no real arguments and false claims "It will limit my freedom" etc. What freedom is it limiting other than the right to deny a marriage between two same-sex individuals on the premise of homophobia?

I've found that you can't really persuade these people. We just have to wait for them to die off.

OMG! People are agreeing that some segment of our society should be afforded exactly the same rights as any other person/group of people. Seriously is "Echo chamber" really supposed to be some kind of criticism? That we're sheep for all having the same opinion about fellow human beings? That we're just buying into a popular notion that we shouldn't hold semantics as more important than the happiness of our fellow citizens?

The original commercial is repulsive. Who the hell are they trying to persuade? Christians crying foul, and making themselves out to be the victim because someone is being allowed to do something their manipulator twisted, cherry picked religion says is wrong is beyond stupid. "They're taking away my freedom" Only in this day and age is allowing someone ELSE to marry YET ANOTHER PERSON "taking away your freedom" What freedom is she even talking about? The right to be a divisive, hate filled stone around the neck of our society? The right to impose arbitrarily selected bits of 2000+ year old, Middle/Near Eastern religious law on everyone in 21st century America?

People who already believe that aren't going to be swung by a parody, and honestly I don't really think that's it's intent. It's an excuse to laugh at something in our society that isn't really all that funny: religion inspired persecution, and fear fueled hate hiding beneath claims of a loss of freedom or a danger to children, seeking to limit another person for the sake of the letter of a religious law put down over 2000 years ago in a region full of cultures that have, for nearly the entirety of recorded history, slaughtered each other in turns. It's an excuse to laugh at it, and hopefully bit by bit, remove it's teeth.

As far as I know, parody isn't supposed to persuade anyone. Its supposed to make people laugh.

Well, gay marriage was banned in California of all places, arguably the most liberal state in the union. With that in mind, I would think gays would be a little more thoughtful about how they want to accomplish their goals. Mocking people and making fun of them typically doesn't work.

Regardless, angry, hysterical homosexuals and fearful Christians aren't the ones your going to persuade of anything as they tend to be pretty closed minded as it is. It's the middle of the road folk you have to talk to, not amongst yourselves.

Only in this day and age is allowing someone ELSE to marry YET ANOTHER PERSON "taking away your freedom"
eh, this coming from someone who claims that simple semantics is "religion inspired persecution, and fear fueled hate". You may want to consult Websters.

Sometimes you have to mock and ridicule something for people to see how silly and stupid it is. Of course, sometimes it just makes people cling to their beliefs even more, but those people are beyond hope anyway.
