    Tatoos for friends.

So here's the deal, I've been asked to do a tatoo. I havent gotten any direction on what it should be.
Basicly she told me to come up with a tatoo. that will fit on her arm. Im pretty lost here, you guys have any ideas ?

ps: before you ask, she made me agree and promise I would do it.

"I havent gotten any direction on what it should be."

    "Im pretty lost here"

Tell her to give you some direction. This is why you're lost. It's not fair of her to expect you to draw up something from thin air - unless you're a mind reader. How are you supposed to design something to her tastes if you know nothing of what she wants? The same goes for the people you're asking help from.

There's a good thread somewhere about how getting a 3rd party to design a tattoo will almost certainly turn out wrong for several reasons. It could be worth tracking that down and reading it.

"before you ask, she made me agree and promise I would do it."

Well, as long as no contract was involved...

Coming from someone who has both given and received tattoos, I would strongly suggest that your friend just go to the shop. Talk to the artist there, look at flash, they will design something for free as long as you get it there. Unless you have experience in that area, your design will probably have to be adjusted or redrawn anyway by the artist giving it. Honestly, if they can't draw a decent design quickly then you don't want them inking you in the first place. Some direction would probably help though, the impulse buying is pretty strong in that environment.

In bold "funky" text, the phrase, "Yeah, Baby!" Because that will never ever get old.

It would probably help if you told us a bit about your friend. Some people like their tattoos to have very deep meaningful messages while some just want something that looks cool

Gotta love friends that ask for tattoos "Cuz yer and awesome artist! YOU TOTALLY GOTTA DO MY NEXT TAT!". Here's some advice I would offer you. You can take it all with a grain of salt (of course).

    1) Point her to a wall of flash so you can at least get SOME kind of idea of what she wants. This is why flash exists, because tattoo artists can't think of this kind of random stuff for anyone and neither should you as the tattoo designer. Seriously, if she is serious enough about you taking your time to do it, then she is serious enough to take an afternoon or evening to go down to the parlor and look at some flash. Even if she doesn't really like anything but shows mild interest in one thing or another, at least you have a starting point.

    2) Is this "friend" a love interest? I would recommend just asking her out instead of wasting your time doing her tattoo. There are faster ways to win her affection. (this is a slightly tongue in cheek piece of advice....or is it?)

    3) Don't get in the habit of this unless they are really good friends. I can't count the number of random people that ask me for tat designs. I see it as nothing other than a job, because I have no emotional investment in someone else's tat, and job = money.

Other than #1, I have no ideas for tats for you, sorry. I hear anchors are popular.

Good Tattoo shops just send you away if you dont have the slightest idea of what you want.

    Tell her you need SOMETHING.

I dont think the american eagle is really her thing, but "yeah baby" is something can work with.

    Collywobbles
She has a friend, who I dont know, supposedly this guy is "amazing at what he does", still I promised so I'll do this drawing for her and hopefully she'll actually get it... I could go talk to a tattooer about it.

Yeah but if I do leave it to someone else, im not getting the pancakes!

if your friends cool enough she should let you redraw this for her:
    Tatoos for friends.

I can't even count how many times my friends have asked me to draw tattoos for them. Most of them never follow up on it.
