    UnstableProtagonist's Sketchbook Diaries

Salutations, everyone! My name is Demeterius and I will like to share countless items from my various sketchbooks. As you will see, I am solely a pencil artist, but I am practicing well with pen and color. Having seeing most of the artists in this forum, I still have a LONG way to go, but I'll practice as much as I can to become a better artist and hopefully, my work will translate to that.

    Mannequin Studies

The following are a couple of 5-10 minute sketches of an action figure and a mannequin. The premise of this exercise is to focus on the gesture of the figure while integrating the values of shadows and highlights.

    Gesture Drawings

These are a few of many gesture drawings I currently have in stock. I'm planning on saving a couple of pages for my portfolio thread.

    Ring Angel concept

This is a digital painting composition completed using Adobe Photoshop CS4. This is a concept design for a main character of a graphic novel that I have planned (hopefully, I might add). I am more inclined with Corel Painter as it gives me more leniency with the blending tools and variety of brushes, but this was a decent attempt yet not the best by any means. I make good use of the blending modes to give the impression of shadow and tonality.

    More Ring Angel concepts -WIP

Here are more practices with Photoshop, basically blocking out the base colors for the characters and the background.

Fun fact: I utilized this particular drawings for a motion graphics piece.

This is a master copy of one of my favorite artists in the world, Burne Hogarth. I'd likely preferred doing this with pastel, but it's fine.

Thanks for dropping by the sketchbook. Make a link to your's in your signature.

You really have a thing for women with six packs, eh?
You are jumping ahead of yourself. Shortcuts don't work.
You need to do life drawings, and lots of them, starting with simple still lifes.
If you want to be a comic book artist you are going to need to draw everything from the wrestlers, to the ring they are in, to a pen a judge might hold.

Post life studies and then people will have a better concept on how far you have to go.

Hamsta: I appreciate your advice on drawing from life more often. It's difficult drawing two things at a time in one composition, so I thought I'd focus on the human figure first before I draw organic or mechanical objects. Also, I am afraid I may have the perspective of the environment incorrect or misaligned.

Bentley: I appreciate your advice as well and I most certainly will draw more frequently.

Mmm, try to use bolder lines when you draw, it'll help with movement and it also helps with keeping everything nice and clean. Nice work so far, keep at it! C:

I've been practicing with solid graphite and actually had some decent results. I'm still testing it out, though.
