    Sadetar's Journey

I'm probably a bad person, cause I don't want to be nor need to be a professional artist. My main goal here is to be able to draw and paint the images and ideas that are in my very own head. References may be used and my style hopefully takes influences of the style of my favourite artist Mucha and Bauer.

However this thread is not that much about the results but more about the journey. My field of expertise lies elsewhere and I do this just for my own amusement. I think that there is no rush in this already complete world we live in. My pace might be slow every now and then, but I do appreaciate every comment and critique that I hopefully have along my long but enjoyable journey.

To put all this in perspective I introduce you some of work from my path this far. Starting from the year 1999 when I was 14.

    1999, coloured pencil
    Sadetar's Journey

2000, my first real attempt with watercolours and ink
    Sadetar's Journey

2000, my first metal graphic work
    Sadetar's Journey

    2001, ink and coloured pencil
    Sadetar's Journey

2001, my first watercolour work with no reference (how stupid I was)
    Sadetar's Journey

    2002, watercolour and ink
    Sadetar's Journey

2002, watercolour, after I really realized that I don't need ink
    Sadetar's Journey

2002, coloured pencil, my first real attempt to make a potrait that is recognizable
    Sadetar's Journey

    2003, watercolour
    Sadetar's Journey

    2003, metal graphic
    Sadetar's Journey

    2004, pencil sketch
    Sadetar's Journey

    2004, watercolour
    Sadetar's Journey

    2004, watercolour
    Sadetar's Journey

    2005, watercolour
    Sadetar's Journey

    2006, pencil sketch
    Sadetar's Journey

    2006, watercolour
    Sadetar's Journey

    2006, watercolour, still unfinished
    Sadetar's Journey

2007, watercolour, still unfinished (this year I didn't finish anything)
    Sadetar's Journey

2008, pencil sketch (also this year I didn't actually finish anything)
    Sadetar's Journey

2009, watercolour, first finished piece in over two years
    Sadetar's Journey

2009, watercolour, work in progress (I try to wash her body and paint it again. I like the bg, but hate the character. Will see will I still finish this one)
    Sadetar's Journey

2009, pencil sketch, from yesterday (hair and face are hard)
    Sadetar's Journey

    Yours Sincerely

Good job on starting a sketchbook! I always enjoy looking at how people evolve over the years. Just go at your own comfortable pace - I suppose since you don't desire to draw for a living you feel less pressured and find the whole process far more enjoyable!

I really like your metal graphic pieces(please tell me what metal graphics are ;_ and some of your women are achieving that Nouveau look you admire in Muchas work. I especially like the 2006 unfinished watercolour, the white hair seems to suit her just as it is.
Keep it up, doodle regularly and do some still life and anatomy studies here and there.
    Welcome to CA

RedSquirrel Well thank you for you kind words and your encouragement. I do enjoy this. And about those metal graphic works of mine. I think I might have translated the word wrong. Metallipainografiikka probably ain't just metal graphic. My bad. I now think I meant engraving and etching. So I basically just got a copper plate and scratched it with different techniques and acid and then I put it through a high-pressure printing press with ink and paper. I really loved to do those, but now I don't have equipment to do them anymore. Perhaps some day.

Kelly X, we all now that you rock! And I always love your comments dear!

a la bapsi Honey, thank you for stopping by. And I promise I'm like a duracell bunny and just keep going and going and going.

I haven't actually painted anything and doodled mainly to my uni papers so I just pretend that I have actually been active and efficient. So now for something completely different.

A necklace I did to myself (from wool and glass pearls) and couple of badges (I actually bought the fabric but I regaled myself with drawing and painting the owl). I have also done two skirts, but I have no pics of them, so they didn't happen.

    ~Viliina

FightingSeraph Well thank you dear. It was nice for you to say. I think that if you take samples from anybody's works from past ten years it is impressive. Everybody should try it.

I did one pencil sketch today. A practise of hair and drapery. The things I so much love to draw.

a la bapsi Well, thank you dear.

Today I found a thread about learning to draw with the off-hand. That sounded so much fun I even had to try it myself. My big brother is left handed and my lil sis is right handed. I was more or less ambidexterous when I was like four. But after I started school my teacher told me that's a bad thing to do, so I haven't used my other hand to drawing or writing since. Even though I can for example play badminton as well with both hands, which means I actually suck with both of them.

I did my previous pic also with my wrong, left hand. I posted this to that thread too, but if someone doesn't read it, I also put it here. What do you think?

you should try to mix the 2 ways of drawing start with the left hand and then finish with the right , you just might come across something beautiful.

Hey, you have some very nice things going on in here :] Your watercolors are beautiful, you have recently developed a very strong illustrative quality in them. they work on a design level as well as portraying a person.
I've tried drawing with my non dominant hand before, and let me just say my attempts didn't come out near as well as yours!

"A drawing is not necessarily academic because it is thorough, but only because it is dead. Neither is a drawing necessarily academic because it is done in what is called a conventional style, any more than it is good because it is done in an unconventional style. The test is whether it has life and conveys genuine feeling."- Harold Speed

Giorge Pumpkin, that was such a marvellous idea, I actually had to try it out. Thank you.

Sorknes Aww, thank you dear. And you were the first one who would like to have that kind owl badge so if you really want one, pm me your address and I'll just do you one and post it to you. I'm serious, no biggie.

Aaron Death Sweetie, Thanks for the kind words. I'm thinking the next watercolour work so I promise I do one after I have decided what would it be.

kelly x My Darling, it's always such a pleasure to have you here. And yes, I did go and drool after your little one. That's also always a pleasure.

The Pariano Hahah. Honey pot, I was ambidextrous when I was a kid, so even if I haven't use it for a while I think it's still something you can't totally forget. So don't worry, and I'm sure you did brilliant with your non dominant hand anyway. And I also really much appreciate your compliments.

And like Giorge suggested, I did this one with my both hands. So first I sketched it really lightly and roughly with my dominant right hand and then finnished it with my left hand. So all the lines that you can see are done with my non dominant hand. I did it for the "The Official - Draw From "What Does Everyone Look Like?" Thread" and it should be Jason Rainville (doesn't look like him, but no can do). I was kinda carried away with the body so I think it's looks more like his than the face. I haven't actually draw man's body in six years, so it was probably time to do so. And I actually enjoyed doing it.

    Aaron Death, Thank you sweetie.

RedSquirrel, Darling, it's always a pleasure to visit your sb. And perhaps I'll try to compine art with other stuff I do, like jewelry and clothes.

Sorknes, Hope you liked them. You are such a dearie!

ruuhkis, Aww, pumpkin. That was sweet of you to say. I promise to update this a little more often.

Grandmassa Mr. Spect, Lol. You are just awesome sweetheart. And of course I listen and obey.

I should actually start doing my thesis, so of course I do everything else except that.

A little pencil doodle I did today. Perhaps I continue it to a watercolour work. Lol. Anything else but the thesis...

A really lovely sketchbook you have here. I loved seeing the progress you've made over the years in the first post. And drawing with your left hand!?!??! You must be pretty much ambidextrous to be doing so awesomely well with that!

Lovely water color work! They tend to give me trouble, but I particularly like the woman with white hair. Do I detect traces of Art Nouveau in your work?

That pencil sketch has such a natural, emotional feel to it. She feels like a real person - it would be great to see it in watercolors, indeed.

Also, the progress is impressive! Makes me want to dig my own old stuff and see the improvement, ehe.
