Thread: Sadetar's Journey
April 16th, 2009 #1
I'm probably a bad person, cause I don't want to be nor need to be a professional artist. My main goal here is to be able to draw and paint the images and ideas that are in my very own head. References may be used and my style hopefully takes influences of the style of my favourite artist Mucha and Bauer.
However this thread is not that much about the results but more about the journey. My field of expertise lies elsewhere and I do this just for my own amusement. I think that there is no rush in this already complete world we live in. My pace might be slow every now and then, but I do appreaciate every comment and critique that I hopefully have along my long but enjoyable journey.
To put all this in perspective I introduce you some of work from my path this far. Starting from the year 1999 when I was 14.
1999, coloured pencil
2000, my first real attempt with watercolours and ink
2000, my first metal graphic work
2001, ink and coloured pencil
2001, my first watercolour work with no reference (how stupid I was)
2002, watercolour and ink
2002, watercolour, after I really realized that I don't need ink
2002, coloured pencil, my first real attempt to make a potrait that is recognizable
2003, metal graphic
2004, pencil sketch
2006, pencil sketch
2006, watercolour, still unfinished
2007, watercolour, still unfinished (this year I didn't finish anything)
2008, pencil sketch (also this year I didn't actually finish anything)
2009, watercolour, first finished piece in over two years
2009, watercolour, work in progress (I try to wash her body and paint it again. I like the bg, but hate the character. Will see will I still finish this one)
2009, pencil sketch, from yesterday (hair and face are hard)

Good job on starting a sketchbook! I always enjoy looking at how people evolve over the years. Just go at your own comfortable pace - I suppose since you don't desire to draw for a living you feel less pressured and find the whole process far more enjoyable!
I really like your metal graphic pieces(please tell me what metal graphics are ;_ and some of your women are achieving that Nouveau look you admire in Muchas work. I especially like the 2006 unfinished watercolour, the white hair seems to suit her just as it is.
Keep it up, doodle regularly and do some still life and anatomy studies here and there.
Welcome to CA

RedSquirrel Well thank you for you kind words and your encouragement. I do enjoy this. And about those metal graphic works of mine. I think I might have translated the word wrong. Metallipainografiikka probably ain't just metal graphic. My bad. I now think I meant engraving and etching. So I basically just got a copper plate and scratched it with different techniques and acid and then I put it through a high-pressure printing press with ink and paper. I really loved to do those, but now I don't have equipment to do them anymore. Perhaps some day.
Kelly X, we all now that you rock! And I always love your comments dear!
a la bapsi Honey, thank you for stopping by. And I promise I'm like a duracell bunny and just keep going and going and going.
I haven't actually painted anything and doodled mainly to my uni papers so I just pretend that I have actually been active and efficient. So now for something completely different.
A necklace I did to myself (from wool and glass pearls) and couple of badges (I actually bought the fabric but I regaled myself with drawing and painting the owl). I have also done two skirts, but I have no pics of them, so they didn't happen.

FightingSeraph Well thank you dear. It was nice for you to say. I think that if you take samples from anybody's works from past ten years it is impressive. Everybody should try it.
I did one pencil sketch today. A practise of hair and drapery. The things I so much love to draw.

a la bapsi Well, thank you dear.
Today I found a thread about learning to draw with the off-hand. That sounded so much fun I even had to try it myself. My big brother is left handed and my lil sis is right handed. I was more or less ambidexterous when I was like four. But after I started school my teacher told me that's a bad thing to do, so I haven't used my other hand to drawing or writing since. Even though I can for example play badminton as well with both hands, which means I actually suck with both of them.
I did my previous pic also with my wrong, left hand. I posted this to that thread too, but if someone doesn't read it, I also put it here. What do you think?
