    Buying Painter

Looking into painter. The latests version of painter is out of my budget so looking at the previous version, either Painter IX (9) or for a little more Painter X (10).

Just wondered from people with personal experience which version they would go for? Is there much of a leap between IX and X?

I think it depends on everyone's work flow. I've been through a lot of the versions and I do like X a lot along with 6 and 7. 9 is pretty good too.

X needs a patch and there are still some instability problems, as well as former versions. I think if you get X you also get a link to downloadable tutorials when you register from Jeremy Sutton (your mileage of its usage may vary but I think getting the most extras you can is a good thing).

I wouldn't bother with 11 at this time till it's patched. If you have an intuos3 you may find this version completely unusable on XP. It seems to be having a missing stroke bug.

What do you plan on doing artwise on it? There's cheaper alternatives out there, after seeing the new Sketchbook Pro I have to get some of that action.

Another thing to consider is getting it from a website that sells apps and peripherals for educational use. There are plenty out there. If you are in college or know anyone who is or even works at a school you can get nice discounts.

Thanks everyone, I would just like to integrate painter partly or completely into my artist work flow.
