Did you try the Large first to see if you have a problem using it? If not, then you have nothing to worry about. I don't think you should worry until you actually try it.

I'm trying it, seems fine.. but I remain with the doubt if the XL one could be better.. Damn.

My experience is, I never use an area much larger than a mousepad anyway, so a large was just more awkward for my lap.
Sure if you're into sweeping arcs, it's great, but when was the last time you went all out on a piece of newsprint?

www.findphil.com for a look at my older stuff
    www.facebook.com/vig.illustrationgraphics for recent stuff
http://velikan.tumblr.com/ for the latest up-to-the-minute stuff, and process nonsense
And finally, http://www.here-there-be-monsters.net/ is the place to be if you want to buy some of my work that has been kitted by the talented hand of Dave.

Artists that are more traditional actually love working large. But a lot of people think that the monitor has more to do with the travel distance...and...really it's not so much.

I prefer the medium and large these days due to rsi but sometimes even the small had its advantages, like for inking it seemed to be just right for me

My desktop monitor is 27 inches and the Intuos4 large is perfect for it. And the intuos4 large is so big in it's own right that I had to buy a new desk to accommodate it....the xl is just way too big. Trust me...you'll be just fine with the large size.
