    thanks guys, really appreciate it

i'm not really sure what else to do with that knight so i'll put it away for a bit and maybe come back later with fresh eyes

in the meantime a miracle has happened - i finished 2 pages of my graphic novel today bring the grand total to 4! at this rate i may finish in this lifetime

the next 4 will be black and white also, then it goes color. my plan right now is to post the first 14 pages online and then after that it will be secret

you can see everything so far here: www.ianbarkerart.com/hoax

getting a bit tired of drawing bricks, but not too many more left

btw I'll comment on everyone's sketchbook when I get back... Mainly mobile boarding right now and can't see that well

Funky sketch! It's cute! The only thing that I would maybe tweak would be the mouth -- I feel like my eye is getting stuck on the black. Maybe if you made it a really dark red instead so that it felt like it was less harsh? (I dunno, that could just be a me thing. I feel like the black is a little jarring because there's nothing else anywhere near as dark as it in the rest of the picture to balance it.)

The music is cool, too. It kind of reminds me of something that you'd maybe here in the background on a TV show or movie.

ooh good point, totes agree with you on that. thanks for pointing that out

so todaaaaaaaay i have FOUR new pages of my story! after this we enter the wacky world of COLOR and only 6 more pages to go before i stop posting these and get back to normal, hehe

there you have it for 8 pages total!

oh and i thought this might make an interesting cover? a big point of the book is the downfall of the boy so it fits. i'll throw it in the pile at any rate.

Liking your latest updates, especially that knight chick! Although given where the arrows have struck she would most likely be dead, unless she's that much of a badass

Art is not about competing against others and being better than everyone else, but it is about competing against yourself and discovering your greatest potential!

Liking it. The simplicity of the comic is nice. I'll be curious to see where you take it next.

From a graphic design stand point with the cover, I might make the word HOAX just a hair lighter and leave the part with your name the color it is now. (Help draw the eye back upward so it doesn't get stuck locked just on the falling figure. I'm not talking crazy-ligher, but like, maybe, a shade or two lighter value-wise. It'll also help to emphasis the title just a little more, too.)

That stylized comic is really cute and seems like it could be interesting.
'The Ladyknight up there is really amazing.
It could potentially have a bit more love in the background.
Like the other guy slightly overlapping with er to create a better sense of depth and the fire not beeing positioned exactly halfway betewwn her and the edge of the picture. But thats just nagging on a high level, the knight is awesome.
Just one bigger thing: If you have two arrows IN YOUR NECK, you're propably dead. ^^

Shockowaffel: I think the point was that she's near death as in any minute she's gonna collapse and die.

Really like the HOAX cover the simplist look of it really works.

thanks guys! yes i think i will definitely have to move those arrows elsewhere :oops:also agreed the background needs some polish... i just got burned out i think

here is a little batman fan art... tdkr is almost here!

and here is page 9 of hoax! the first pages in color are taking a while but hopefully practice will speed things up.

www.ianbarkerart.com/hoax to read it in order

oh, and here are some logos i've made... braums and recycled are from college last year (don't think i posted them tho), others are new:

I like the Batman piece. That's pretty cool. (One small thing - I would maybe add a rim light on one side of his upper half just to pop him out from the background a little bit. He's getting sort of lost in the darkness and, with the logo being spotty in the cloud/smoke work, I feel like he could use just a tiny bit more focus. I wouldn't do a strong rim light, just a soft one to make him a little smidge more obvious.)

Good contrast in the new page from Hoax. (I like the colors you're working with - it's an interesting scheme.)

Nice logo design work, too. (The only one I take issue with is the Braums one, and it's a very minor issue - the font looks jagged to me, like it saved weird? I would think it would be smoother, like the clouds that surround it. Otherwise, awesome logo.)

    Great update! Keep 'em coming.

hey guys sorry about the absence. for some reason i got a bit wrapped up in finishing things before posting. which obviously is against the point.

Heey man! I saw you wrote you wanted some tips for this one; http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...1&d=1343938782 a while back, not sure if you still need it but it look a bit like the monkey dude is really stale and is standing still, i'm assuming from the setting and the fact that he's above ground means he's moving around, try making him less balanced and switch up the angle a bit.

You've got some really cool stuff dude!

Your cartoony stuff is fantastic. I think your images could use some more thought on the value range. Quick way to check: In Photoshop, desaturate your image and increase the contrast, see if it still holds the value information you wanted.
