Hi guys, I've been asked to put in a piece for a school show and this is what I've got so far.
It's basically a commentary on global warming and the effect that is has on the future of polar bears. I'm not much of a painter, but I want to make this better than it is. Any criticism will be welcome! I know it needs a lot of work, so any comments are greatly appreciated.
The polar bear looks more like a wolf or even a seal right now. Reference some actual polar bears; their shape shouldn't be too hard to get down after that.
The piece of ice it's on looks very thin, and almost floating off the water due to the white lines under it. Having it have a more visible thickness, as well as blending and reflecting into the water better, would be a great improvement. The factories blowing out smoke near the top is a bit hard to read (Took me a while to realize they were chimneys), and the rather organic shape makes me confuse it with the waves and water. A squared-out factory building would be the perfect contrast to the waves. The smoke also looks as if it's part of the chimneys, further pushing the wave thing. Smoke should have a more billowy and cloudy shape, and is seen through in some areas, too.
The "Feeling" of the piece, though, is pretty decent and appropriate. Well done in that regard.
Awesome, thank you very much for the reply and comments. I will definitely work on this more and take your comments with me. Thanks again!
Draw in your horizon line and vanishing point lines with a pencil - right now, both feel very arbitrary.
