Thread: Bri Bri wants to learn
April 9th, 2009 #14
sourgasm: Ah thanks man, for the useful advice, links and encouragement. Yeah I'll order that Bridgeman book. Wanna draw from life as much as possible. Been doing some life drawing at college ( 2 hours a week ) and I absolutely love it.
The art demon has possessed me, I swear. I'm even drawing and painting in my sleep, I shit you not
Mindcandyman. Yeah before I Joined this site I looked at a few sketchbooks. Each one from start to finish in one sitting. Off the top of my head
Algenpfleger, Mr Delicious. Trevor, Hurri, CcSears and of course the legend that is Mindcandyman. These guys inspire the budding artist more than they will ever know.
I'll swing by your sketchbook when I get the chance.

those are all great sketchbooks. look up cole eastburn ellis (colepoopface) too. he made getting into ca.org atelier his goal, quit his job and then made it happen. i actually did the same thing, so I'm constantly pushing people who believe it can happen- because it sure of shit can.
if you do a quick google search, you can probably find a weekly life drawing session in your town. they generally take place at colleges and run about $10. if the model sucks, which happens a lot at that level, you can always just move around the room and do a shit ton of gestures.
anyway. good luck! i'm going to keep stopping by and check what you're up to

sourgasm: Belief indeed, is a very powerful thing. Thanks again for the encouragement bud.
Kihatsusei: Thanks sweetheart! You get practicing too!
OK... so here's some drawings i did last night. All from reference. Lets call them, observational studies. Trying to get some sketches down in quick time( No more than 5 mins each). Just trying to build confidence in line and accuracy. When I feel confident enough I'll move onto digital.
Imagine I may get a quicker response if I ask here. Can someone plz tell me how to add text to each image? For some reason I don't see the option Maybe I'm totally blind.

More drawing from last night. Maynard from the band Tool. Reference used. Another observational study. Started with ink then moved onto charcoal. Took just over 1 hour. One pic is artificial light with accidental camera blur ( which looks quite cool I think ) and the other, natural light. I like the different effect the two light sources have. Gonna do some anatomy studies soon.

`ej : Hey, thanks a lot buddy
Wanted to try and use my imagination a little. Chose a pose from posemaniacs and tried to draw a character of sorts. Didn't wanna spend too much time laboring over it. Figured, the more I draw, the easier it will get. ( I hope )
Crits greatly appreciated!

Lassabella : Hey, thanks
15 min life drawing. Quite happy with this. The hand is pretty poor. Need to draw more hands and learn to lay some tone in quickly.
15 min life drawing. She was unhappy at having to model for me after a hard day at work......
Think I captured this slightly Not too pleased at the drawing though. Need to keep practicing.

Really enjoyed drawing from imagination with the last guy in armour, so thought I would have another go. Didn't fancy drawing from imagination as I thought it would be frustrating. Well it's fun so here's a concept I came up with for a little story I have running in my head. No reference used. I can spot a few mistakes here and there, ( like robot left hand ) but these will get fixed when I develop it further.
