watercolor portraits are off the chain duuude i like the movement you've created with the last digital's composition, even if my eye is only going in one direction (towards the top) i think it works, but at the same time i find myself only staring at the center and going upward. perhaps try messing with the composition more in a way so that the eye leads to different areas of the picture and not just one straight path? i can't say much for i'm no pro at composition but i see that you accomplished a lot with this piece and indeed learned something

keep the updates coming bud !

Pastels look delicious, matey. Just keep in mind the proportions. Especially the heads and faces still suffer from that issue. Other than that you're doing great.

Ryan, slow the FUCK down! I know you can push yourself harder than this, everytime I look at this thread you remind me of myself and I know that doing that doing even 2 really slow studies will benefit you a hell lot more than doing all these quick pieces. You've done quick, so much of it but start doing some real slow and thoughtout studies, then do a painting from imagination just as slow.

Quality not quantity Ryan, and remember art is a mind game. It's all about what you're thinking as you draw. Push yourself and cross that line.

On another note those pastels are looking sexy

you're doing fine bro-- the pastel renderings on the female nudes is fking awesome D: makes me want to get my hands on some pastel anyway, i would have to agree with nibras-- slow down a bit more and do more focused studies (you remember what i said sometime before right? )

anyway, just keep in mind that the faster you go, the quality suffers. no need to rush things

It really is quality > quantity. Think about this: There is a portrait in the National Gallery in London that took 15 years to complete and it's not uncommon for a master to spend 1+ hours just mixing paints for a painting. Aberzheim is saying this to me all this time: slow down.

I know it seems that there is a flipping huge amount of things you need to get a hold of and that you need to draw draw draw paint paint paint study study study non stop and as quick as you can, but what you need to do is gain focus and patience. Tackle one subject really hard whilst keeping in mind that learning how to draw something (like the human head) is just a means to an end. The real goal is to learn how to draw everything - and the skillset that applies to drawing or painting something like the human figure can be applied to pretty much anything. Planes, intelligent design, mechanics, anatomy, light, colour, perspective, form (simple and complex) ect.

Anyway I'm getting sidetracked... Draw something from life but really really pay attention to how correct your drawing is (compare alot) and your handling of the medium.

Keep at it, read books, have fun, seeya.

SP turned out great man! You got dem purdy eyes I also love the more planar look it has. Maybe add in a subtle bit of reflected light in the shadow area to separate the jaw/neck a bit?

Happy birthday (for real now, because it is your birthday here now)!
