Bill Hicks is a ridiculously underrated comedian, IMO. George Carlin was also really funny.

David Cross is almost always reliably funny. I loved him in Mr. Show and Arrested Development, and he's very good at stand up.

Probably one of my personal favorite comedians in modern times is Patton Oswalt. Just listen to his LP Werewolves and Lollipops. It's genius.

Stephen Colbert isn't technically stand-up, but he did do the White House Press Dinner....and destroy everyone there verbally.

I agree that Bill Bailey is rather amusing. Haven't really seen enough of Dylan Moran to form an opinion as yet...

George Carlin was my kind of guy.
I actually discovered him through the internet quite recently cause he never got any airtime on dutch tv.
This is one of my favorite clips:

Mitch Hedberg was awesome, I loved him (too bad he's gone).

Carlin was kick ass too, not so funny anymore, his old stuff was great though.

    Richard Pryor, also badass.
