I see some great stuff in here. Good characters. I really like the soldier piece in post #48, especially his face. But I would really like to see some more studies. Try to get your hands on Bridgman's constructive anatomy if you haven't. Really good book.

    Keep it up man!

    Update: March 2nd, 2010 - 6:31pm
I haven't updated in a while and to be honest I haven't been doing anything digital in quite some time. I recently moved and went on vacation, so I've been out of my routine. Anyways, this is what I have been working on. Crits welcomed!

Hello, everyone. I've taken a long hiatus from drawing to focus on writing and other things in my life. Fortunately, I've slowly been getting back into the groove and forcing myself to draw.

You may recognize this first one from the image I was drawing a long time ago. After inspecting the anatomy closer, I realized my proportions were way off. So, I started all over again. I'm not sure they're much better, but it seems to be looking OK so far. The other two are just character concepts still in the sketch phase. Comments and critique welcome.

This is a character concept I did for a private commission. I still need to work on a few things and give some variations to the face and hair, but I like the core concept. I'm actually pretty satisfied with how it came out.

that last character is very nice. ide like to point out how well your values and design read without all the fancy rendering. this is key.

keep it up. i really like the stuff you are putting out.

You have a great imagination It really shows. Your digital work has improved so much in 3 pages, that's amazing!

I would recommend maybe doing some sketch work in pencil? Good to take a break from digital sometimes!

@Ricardo Robles - Gracias amigo! I appreciate the visit.

@ladyknowles - Thank-you. Those 3 pages have a lot of time between them without much posting on here. I went through a tough time with art and decided to really get serious. I actually have some pencil sketches, but I'm too lazy to scan them. I might do that soon. Thanks!

Here's a sketch of a Star Wars character and another private commission done for a D&D character.

This is a commissioned illustration of a villain for The World of Farland campaign setting. I think I could have cleaned it up a little, but I like the feel of it, no?

Here are some very quick (20 mins.?) arm studies. Some are copied from Collywobbles, who has sadly disappeared.

Neat stuff, but I think you're getting into details too early, the overall form doesn't read very well.

@razz - Do you mean on these anatomy studies, or my images overall? If you mean the studies, than I completely agree. Stepping back from it, I really see what you mean about it.

Here's a commissioned piece for a RPG starter module I've been recruited to help with.

What a great start! And the improvement shows with every post you make. That must mean that you learn fast...
The only advice I can give you, that helped me along the way, is do a lot of studies, do studies every day, and make them fun, learn something from each of them, take your time to understand form, shape, rhythm, texture, the way lighting works. What also really helped me stick to the studies was getting inspired constantly by other artists, like here: http://www.livestream.com/tomscholes
    Or here: http://www.livestream.com/algenpfleger
A good set of brushes that you can experiment with can be found here: https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B1P...t&num=50&pli=1

I am looking forward to see you evolve and bloom! Thanks for dropping by my SB.

Nice progression from the first work posted in the sketchbook. I think everything I would have mentioned has been mentioned already by others, but I think maybe the metal things could use some brighter highlights in areas (such as the metal around the top of the shield in your dwarf character) to give them more of a reflective look.

Nice anatomy studies too, keep doing them because I can see they've helped you improve a lot. Thanks for the kind words in my sketchbook, too!

Gadbury - Thanks for comments, and I'd have to say you're definitely right. I don't draw enough from life, so I'm really missing on those realistic elements. (P.S. I would have voted for your CHOW if it got accepted)

Reika - Thank-you for gracing my sketchbook! I would absolutely agree and thank-you so much for those links and the helpful comments.

This is the final image of a commissioned D&D character portrait. She is supposed to be an Asian-inspired Gnome Rogue. Not as happy with the face as I would like, but I think overall it came out good.
