they look bad, because they are what you called them "stick men". you are not supposed to draw stick men like a child would but use it as a means of capturing the pose through gesture and flow. take a look at Figure Drawing Without A Model by ron tiner, or How to draw comics - the Marvel way by stan lee. it will take time even to do something as "simple" as this because it isnt really simple it just looks that way so stick with it.

its time to knuckle down and really lick boot!
LOOK MOMMY! I laid a sketchbook!

In addition to what Rattsang said, I can spot two things wrong with these stickmen.
One, they have no shoulder width or hip width.
Two, they have rubbery limbs with no set joints.

Doing stickmen is a very, very basic form of anatomy study...judging by your ability in that alien idea, you don't need to go THAT far back.

it is not basic and many ppl canīt achieve the qualities that proper "gesture " drawing rather than stick men gives you

practice the methods in either of the books mentioned above to understand what i mean.

I would say practice more gesture drawing. That's one of the way to make an action seem realistic. As realistic as stick figures go.
