but in general, you neglected the construction of the face, some proportion issues i see

but if you keep studying and keep applying you'll get there, so keep going danny!!

I see, then i wish you patience with teh" wagon"
About the life drawing it's way better than those from the past, what may help you is try to do some blind contour studies, so that you can get the arabesque of the head with more ease. Check on Frank Reilly and his method of drawing; Chris Sears draws in that style and he has some really nicee drawings in his sketchbook, check them out if you haven't yet..

    Cheers my friend.

Nurses are cool as long as they are not Silent Hill nurses :'D Don't be afraid to sketch outside - the more you do from life, the better.

I agree that faces lack construction. Work on that :]

    Thanks guys!
I donno if you heard about all the fuss around TAD and MB on CA, Hannes and Jana left TAD due to certain reasons which I think is a big mistake to pass on an opportunity like that. more about it here one thing is for sure I'm not going anywhere... CA was a home for me and still is and little conflicts are not what's gonna hold me back from realizing my dream!
Anyway back to art, some sketch poop and my blizzard entry, I'm somewhat not happy with his face so any help with that and generally would be highly appreciated, paint over would be even better!

    cheers!

Hey Danny_K. Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook.
I'm going to return the favor. Your pieces seem to be lacking depth because of structure. You have varying tones and color saturation, but I think you may want to consider the shapes of the objects you are painting to better understand the form.
There are many great examples of this on ca, but I'll steer you towards one of my favorite paintings: Colors of Self

    Thanks again.

zanpakatou yes thank you so much for getting back to my SB, I am aware that I have construction problems many friends mention it to me, I am working on it!!

The final version for the Blizzard propaganda poster contest

And I decided to go back and fix my older concept, thanks to the guys at CGhub I could finish this up.
there were two overpaints to choose from for me so I choose Version A it was basically what I aimed for at the first place but just done properly, so I erased the background completely and started all over the only thing that remained was the ship which I revised and the character that I erased her legs and erased part of the gun which had some perspective problems.

    Name: Mandryktut_batch_lowres.jpg

My final version after all revisions, man I learned tons from this!
Oh and if you are interested in some background she is an assassin which crash landed on a desert like toxic planet that's why the heavy suit armor and mask, lots of radiation there :/ your probably thinking well if she's an assassin then wont all those green lights give her away on the mission? she has a button to turn off lights so don't ya worry lads she got it all covered, shes a professional...

Nice! I really like the composition of overpaint A! I donät know a lot about composition but I like it, I think you should keep the moon too but maybe make it a tad smaller. Just so that area don't become too empty.

Cool stuff, did a paint over of the space marine, mainly I think The values could be pushed a bit further, I darkened the area behind the character to pop out its silhouette, I also added a highlight to the gun to push it into the foreground and then darkened the right shoulder so the highlight would compete for space. The perspective of the head was also off, the nose projects out more and the area above the eyes shifts as well.

For the final of the assassin piece make the the yellow highlight on the inside of the crotch dosent go to high since the parts near the crotch would be block by the other leg.

on a side note feng zhu been publishing tutorials on you tube recently http://www.youtube.com/user/FZDSCHOOL#g/u so there good.

    keep practicing.

I loooove the CGHub paintover thread!

Hm, about that marine, the "make a difference" text should be on top, it just cuts the image in an odd way. OR make the star a little higher up and more prominent (I think this might be a better option, actually).

Good to see you working hard!

    Hey my man!

I see that you're a hard worker lately, i dig that if there's anything in the world that can stop you from drawing, tears and sweat are not one of those.

The paintovers you recieved are a good hint/direction, but noone of them have touched eh very important topic which is composition. It's hard to explain, but sometimes you just have to feel it. Currently it's about empty there, some kind of future commando with metal booobs ( boobs are good always, thumbs up )
And some kind of devastated ? place. Try crowding this place a bit more, some other people, maybe wounded, dead? Always think of terms of building a more or less believable story in your illustrations.

The marine is way better, but i don't like the use of dark black-ish colors.
I'm currently and perhaps forever will be under charm of asian artists. Just check some of them and see how they can play with any color and make it work. Ben zhang bin for example. Have a great day Danny, huuuuuuug.

alexson Yeah dude I agree it looks a bit empty behind her, I was thinking about maybe adding ruins of buildings or a mech or maybe a huge space ship, what do you think?

surfandsnow thanks man, that's a pretty good paint over though I like the lighting on my version I don't want it to be too dark because it's supposed to be a propaganda poster which is supposed to be well lit and send a certain message, your version would work if I would want to go for a more mysterious and suspenseful mood, also thanks for the feng zhu link I started to check some of his tut and their awesome...

Donna Hey I hope your not leaving CA too ah? CGhub is nice and all but CA is home

Icecold metal boobs haha, thanks for a good laugh mate!
Same thing like Alexson said what do you think I should add, city ruins, huge ass mech, or a spaceship in the far distance?

I'm leaving for Los Angeles tomorrow for a 4 days training for my new job, so I wont be home till saturday night, but rest assured I will study at every spare breath I will have and will take some walks in the little town and find some cool stuff to draw maybe i'll take some photos too?

Keep it up man study hard and you will get to where you want one day i love your Marines soldier and marine like suit style on some concepts im sure you are fan of Starcraft and you are getting Starcraft 2!
an advice from me when you have time and you want to improve man go outside and start drawing people(places where are lots of people) as they pass by you you know perspective movement anatomy how it works i think it will help you understand few things about how things work and then use it to improve your work,im doing it myself and its really helpfull

So I barely had time to draw this past week because I had to concentrate my mind on studying the new job but I think I'll be able to get back on my routine within a week or two, for now just a little concept.

Hey, your pencil work is great. I'd suggest for your photoshop paintings, there is something that always looks off about the brushes or blending technique you use. It seems like perhaps you are using the blur tool to blend? If so that kind of makes things muddy. Well whichever you use, my suggestion is to experiment with different ways of coloring and shading your subjects.

Chr. Steam thanks! I enjoyed your SB as well

Sweron Hey man, it was just about TAD scholarship, unfortunately they did not grant me any so here I am self learning still :/

I felt like in a horror mood tonight and this Idea with a fridge popped in my mind and I had to draw it before it slips away, then I got in a little argument with my wife wanting to watch a movie with me and I'm trying to explain: but but I got this crazy idea I gotta draw it! and she tells me put it on a sketch! any way we ended up watching the movie of course! but I still painted it after wards haha!

I'm thinking of building a character portfolio and I want to start with futuristic soldiers like this one inspired by fallout universe, this one is a medic and I'm thinking which mask looks better A or B? critiques and comments are most welcome at this stage before I start rendering.

    thanks!

Something I forgot to mention about the samurai chick http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...1&d=1277353091 the eyelids follow where the eye looks, so if the person looks down the top eyelid will lower slightly, minor point, but it can come in handy, also you should move the lids well ahead of the whites of the eye to give the lids some thickness and make the eye recede into the head a bit more.

Heres a link to that plane head you found the photo of http://www.planesofthehead.com/order.php

    the mech looks pretty cool.

For the fridge scene the bottle could have used some caustics(like a magnifying glass) and its hard to say for sure but I think you should try pushing your values a bit more in general.

For the last one I kinda prefer a. Also try using line weight a little more, I think it helps to make the outline of the character a bit thicker/darker to help make the silhouette read. I also think you need to foreshorten/rotate the med pack around the waist on the left side since its wrapping around the cylindrical form of the body.
