The Mandeboli Tripod is nicknamed the "Death Mosquito" (for obvious reasons) by frightened Earth troops in the desert battlefield. This elegant contraption is not a war machine, but a refueling vehicle for Mandeboli tanks. What terrorizes the soldiers is the fact that the Tripod is prepared to convert any readily available carbon sources into fuel, including energy-rich people.

Three hours after it landed in the Jonses yard, scaring little Suzy away in the process, and after much communication with the mother ship, scientific probing, and mathematical calculations, it still hasn't figured out what the holes are for.
The shell made for the alien species SREeeeeeTCh'nnnackkkkt (roughly translated: those of the potato scrubbers) for first contact with the odd, little, pretty coloured planet called Earth. It contains seventy three SREeeeeTCh'nnnackkkkten.

Hi, my first time here. This is mine.

A short note on this round:
Good to see a lot more entries this week, really makes me happy again guys
Only one who didn't make it to poll, I didn't have time to really look at the concepts I'm afraid.
fishergraphix: Sorry, but the rules in the main thread clearly state that no full 3d images are allowed in IDW.

Yeahhhh! 10 vote-able entries. Great work everyone! I find it interesting how so many of them turned out to be organic-related. The range of things people can come up with from the same topic is astounding.
I voted for zeo-x. Very nice rendering (in purple no less) and I like the pod idea. The two look like they could be connected to one another if you knew nothing of the topic which is great. You've still got leg issues going on however.
PMaz: It's nice to see some physical media being used around here. Nice use of colour.
Zimfin: You have some inconsistencies with the light source. I like the clean, sharp lines you have. It might be nice to include a size reference because I was thinking it was a monstrous thing, because of the perspective we're looking from. Great work.
Fishergraphix: It looks like you've lowered the opacity on your tripod in an effort to have the 'cut and paste' look down to a minimum. If you had the time, you probably could pop it into photoshop (I know nothing about 3D, so if this isn't possible, excuse me) and as long as you painted over all of the lights as I think that's mainly what's distracting, you could help the image out a bit. Some reflected light off the city lights and sky would be a plus too. You have a nice design going on.
Hexism: I have no idea what your tripod's purpose is. My main problem with this is that you have explanatory pics on the side, and they show only the physical action, but do not explain what the result or purpose of the action is. A bit more work on the legs to cover the lines would help too. Colour are looking great, and the shape is intriguing.
xgabo: Cool skeeter inspired design. The surface makes me thing of poisonous snakes from the texture and the stripes to warn things away. I like the tanks too. You would have gotten my second vote.
dwinbotp: It reminds me of my bio texbook pic of a bacteriophage. The bottom of your tripod is kind of slanting to the right and it looks a bit rushed (if only there were more hours in a day: more sleep, more art ).
ab4185 : I like yours. It seems to have a personality, and it looks like the way it walks is tiptoey. You have gotten a clear image through with what looks like a fairly quick paint. You're going out of your lines in a few places, but a nice job overall.
Somni: Hey, no problem. Everyone has to start somewhere. Just start earlier next time. One main thing I would say is to pay attention to your circles. right now they're wobbly and leaning all over the place. Try playing with some blending too, to try and get all the brushmarks together. Simply some love and attention to detail will take you far.
self: don't get me started. Made me happy though. I just played out little skits in my head as to how this thing ended up there. Poor little Suzy: a heart attack at six years. You can't see it but she's lying just outside of the frame getting cpr from their neighbour, Mr. Geedooly, the cannibalist.
Massouh: Welcome. I'm having a bit of a hard time reading yours. A mixture of graphic shapes, lots of texture and many light sources that don't quite match up I thinks. Purpose? Material of glowy bits?
As usual, just feel free to ignore me if anything strikes you as off.

Hi Pixie, I totally agry with you. It's hard to read. I tryed to explore with different shapes and light sources...in the end, I ran out of time but decided to post it anyway.....thanks for your input!

Gah, why have I not been here in a couple of weeks? Very glad to see more entries in here! And some very nice entries too!
I ended up going with xgabo, very stylish alienness about it; though I think there's something weird about the way the front leg's bending that looks a bit awkward; anyways, lovely piece.
zeo-x, lovely piece there as well, twas damn close I have to say. Great colours!
I like the entries from PMaz and ab4185 too, some cool ideas coming out
and seriously just had to laugh Pixie Trick (which I know was the point), lovely back story
Definitely looking forwards to joining in on the next round . . . (if there's time... )
