    Icon IDW #96: Alien Tripod

    IDW #96: Alien Tripod

    Topic: Alien Tripod

Background: Even if you've never seen the movies or read the book, doubtlessly you have heard about War of the Worlds at some point in your life. And with that name, the mentioning of alien tripods invading earth and destroying everything on their path. In short: classic sci-fi stuff.

This topic is simple: design an Alien Tripod. It doesn't necessarily have to be from War of the Worlds, it can be any alien tripod. It doesn't even have to be an evil one, it can also be our first contact with a friendly alien species if you want, as long as it walks around on just three legs

    Brief:
    1. Design and draw an Alien Tripod.
    2. That's it... now draw!

Worth a go... will edit when I have my first WIP. Methinks I'll go for the peaceful, if snobbish, types...

There we go... I'm gonna go for a kind of Howdah type vehicle, so those Alien Imperialist Snobby Types can look down on the British Imperialist Snobby Types they're going to be walking around in the final... hehehe...

Hey PMaz, really liking the uniqueness of the design, but when I try to picture how it'll walk in my head.. it looks a little clumsy.. so you might want to work that out a bit. other than that, it's looking pretty cool man.

Wow! Seeing a heckuva lot of good entries already (I feel ashamed of my poor first sketchy sketch)...

Deon - That is a sweet little machine, nicely thought out... but just one question: what's its purpose, transport, cargo, weapon? Call me nosy, but I like to know these things...

Hexism - *chuckles* Love it... Always like a good sense of humour, even in tripod machines of infinite death!

    Well, good luck everyone!

Thanks for the crit Zeo-X. ;P I guess it does look clumsy. I was going for something totally mecanical with a very uneasy and broken walk cycle. I wanted to try to create something "alien" in the way it moves rather than on the finish. I guess it wasn't that sucessfull if it looks clumsy but I don't think I'll have time to rework it... Adding some marker renderings might be as far as it's ever gonna get. ;P

    Btw Really like Hexism design.

Hey Deon, really like the alien organic look on yours.

    --

A sketch I did last night.. there's something very wrong with the way it's standing right now.. been trying to fix it all night and it's driving me nuts..it'll be awesome if someone here has any idea where to place the legs... anyway, will be colouring it soon.

    IDW #96: Alien Tripod

ZEO-XHave you tried pushing the front right leg slighly backward so the two front leg seem closer together in order for the viewer to see them as a pair? I'm not sure it's the direction to go but it might help.
