    Fischart Dump-didi-dump-dump 2009

Hey guys. Looooong time! This place is so fantastic. It seems to me that about once a year I start to run dry creatively, and my wanderlust for inspiration always brings me here to CA, and it is like a rebirth in many ways. I thank you all.

Been a fun year! Finished two more fully illustrated books, had a mind blowing time teaching w/ Rebecca Guay, Boris, Julie, DanDos, Manchess, Irene and Donato at the Master Class in Amherst MA. Lookin forward to doing it again in June! Did gobs of character art for Sony. And I even had a 2 man fine art show with Michael Whelan. Thanks Shay and Kelly!!!

Those who know me, know that I dabble in many genres from novel covers to concept art, middle reader, all the way to children's books for the weeist ones. So if you guys are game, I will take us through a sampling of it all!

Book-news wise, my second fully illustrated book for Simon and Schuster is out. (I hinted at it in my last big dump) It's called Animals Anonymous (written by Rich Michelson) and I illustrated the entire thing in bic ball point pens. And did all the design to make it look like a spiral bound notebook. It is for ages 14 and up so it isn't a kids book per say, (though I read it to my 6 year old!) Over 50 drawings in there and notes and scribbles and doodles everywhere. It was a labor of love and I am really proud if the work that went into it.

    Anyway, on to the art!

    Covers:
Novel cover for Irene. 'Evil Guest' by Gene Wolfe

Finish on a cover I showed the sketch for before. Pretty cool that some publishers are going to print with this 'sketchy' style. Author- DeLint

    Dingo by Charles DeLint

Book of Tormod by Kat Black

    Stowaway by Savlatore

    Stepsister Scheme by Jim Hines

    Grimspace by Anne Aguirre

I feel myself getting into water media for the first time. I think is is my kidsbook work rubbing off! Tons of watercolor on this.

    Magic

    Private C- Batz and Quinn

    Experiment- Sold your soul

    Concept Art:

BTW I have a sudden opening in my concept schedule over the next couple months. If y'all are lookin, gimme a shout.

I am stoked to finally share some of the work I did for flagship in the early days of Hellgate. It was code named 'project underground' when I was working on it.

    DATSUNS!

What can I say, I'm obsessed w/ Datsuns! These are just for the love of it and nothing else.

    Middle reader jackets:

Animals Anonymous. This is how the book printed! Old and ratty and lookin like it just fell out of a backpack. You can see more of it at my website, here.
    http://www.fischart.com/KidsArtBigAA.html

    Children's book stuff!

Just finished the art for my next book called JUMP cut I can't share it yet quite yet. But here is an idea of what's to come. All brush ink and watercolor.

And some other random Kidsbook stuff:

I wanted to make the cutest thing I could. We're talking 'gag me' cute.

So that is about it guys. I'm sure I am missing stuff, but don't want to overload you anymore than I have.

There is some other cool stuff at my site in the cover section.

    http://www.fischart.com/FischartCvrThumbs.html

And I finally have a leg of the site just dedicated to the Kids stuff. A lot is under construction, naturally!

    http://www.fischart.com/Kids.html

I'll finish up with a lil extra concept. Can't talk about it much, but I'll hopefully have much more of this bot stuff to share down the road.

As always I look forward to hearing what y'all think of any of this stuff! Rock on with your bad selves. You really do amaze me. And totally inspire me.

Oh and if you haven't seen them (Lots of new members!) and are interested in my past threads where I talk technique, inspiration, etc. They are in my signature below.

Awesome update, dood! I REALLY love the watercolor thing you got going on. It was awesome studying with you guys in Amherst and I'm look forward to IMC '09. See you there! Are you going to be able to bring some of the new stuff with you to the workshop? That'd be suh-weeeet!

I wish Ray! They have that stuff all in a vault for now. But in the end I think I did like 30 characters for them.

Thanks Jes! Yeah I am really digging water color for the first time in my professional life. (I've always thought it was the hardest media BTW. Harder than oil even.) There is something about the way it can pool. The random watermarking. THe tooth of that paper. The graininess. Just dropping a puddle and letting it lie, resisting the urge to smooth it out. Yummy.

IDK, but I am all hopped up about it! And I need to get better at letting it do what it does. I am sure an oil/watercolor fusion is in my near future.

I have another mostly wc I just finished today, I will post it soon! The pain comes when you try to scan it. The light of the scanner goes through the translucent areas and has a way of making it look kinda dirty. I should prolly figure out how to shoot it with a camera. I just have never had the patience to learn.

    Nonie- I think I have to hit a 240 before a 280! But before that I gotta hit a NL320, 521, 610, F10, 510 goon! I love the early 70's and before!

    I have a 521 in the garage!

If your drawings were any more stylized than this, I wouldn't like them. As it is, they're really cool. The top one of the red-haired woman in the white dress reminds me of Nicole Kidman's character in The Golden Compass. She was not a nice lady.

Thoroughly awesome as always. Great how you can produce so much variety yet never loose that distinct and exuberant Scott Fischer vibe. The AA stuff is an absolute knockout. Rock on.

Absolutely fantastic. Animals Anonymous looks great... it all looks great. Please do share more of that bot down the road, even that little taste makes us hungry for more.
