    Limely's little sketchbook c:

    Hey there (:

I'm a student from Norway, currently studying in an upper secondary school with focus on visual arts. I'm at my second year.
I also don't know what to do with my life, but I sure would like to draw.

I'd love any sort of constructive critisism I can receive. c:

A character I've had in mind for a while. She's yet to receive a name though, but otherwise, I think I have her looks down.

Hey!! Really neat style you have going there! ^___^ Reminds me of cartoons that I watched waaay back...they had spice!! They had lots of life! Yours are lookin' the same! And it's great seeing that you're also working with anatomy--figure drawing type stuff!

I'll say good success with digital painting from scratch! I can't say much about the effort yet, because that's pretty much how I started a picture the other day. Is there a certain way you want the shading to look? Keep it closely in mind, because the way you want your picture to end up--cartoony, realistic, a little of both, something else--will be influenced a good deal by how you shade and even outline the drawing (I won't go into details unless you think it'll help you out).

Thanks a bunch for your kind comments. c:

JazzW: I'm not sure how I want to do the shading yet... It's sort of experimental, though I know I'm not aiming for something super-realistic... Sort of cartoony but not too simple either.

Anyway, here's some stuff I did today...

I did this one this evening, partly to experiment a bit with light and colours and stuff, partly to relax and have fun, and partly because I wanted to paint a hairy dinosaur-king.
I'm not sure if I'll finish this one or not, though I obviously need to get into the habit of finishing stuff...

The girlie from yesterday, inked and coloured at school during lunch some time...
I used felt-tip pens for this one, because that was what I had at hand right there, though normaly I use brushes and pen-nibs because those are a lot more versatile, and working with those actually makes the inking process fun.

Here's another one. I really liked the sketch, so I'm going to finish it with watercolours tomorrow.

I wanted to plan out the colours a little first though, since with watercolours you pretty much get just one chance, so it's nice to think ahead a little. Name: accordion colour plan.jpg

Been messing around with aquarelles lately, because my classes can be slow sometimes. Also started doodling by doing the rough draft in coloured pencils, and then the more detailed drawing with a normal pencil or a pencil in a different colour... I feel it helps me a lot. c:

Good stuff! I like your watercolours though they are a tad washed out. Don't be afraid to go a bit more intense with them.

Thanks, I'll try that. c: I guess I'm a bit afraid of watercolours yet, they are so unpredictable. That's also why I like them so much though, I reckon...

Here's some more sketches from the last few days. I've been feeling a little bit sick, so I have mostly been sleeping and playing Twilight Princess, rather than drawing. Bad me.

I like the watercolours too. Inventive characters. Also the one sitting on the chair in this page http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1237330420 looks very, I don't know what to call it, well posed? Looks beliveable.

Thank you. (: I was quite a bit surprised with how well the post came out on that one. Glad you like it.

Here's some more sketches... I haven't drawn much, as I've been ill or busy with a very important contest, but it'll pick up again soon.

Here I am again with some more sketches and stuff from the past week... I really think that sketching with coloured pencils has helped me majorly, it helps me think a lot more clearly and produce cleaner sketches.

Hi Limely, I thought I'd check your sketchbook as well!

I really like your stuff, it reminds me of books I read when I was a kid.
You've got some good stuff going, keep it up!

Very nice sketchbook! I love all the characters you've created, very rich in emotion and personality. The water colors bring back some long ago memories to me for some reason, dunno since I don't remember ever really using water colors but I must have since they bring back fond memories, lol

    Thanks, guys!

c: Some doodles from the past few days...

These are some doodles from a sort of project I have going on my own:

    Name: Florence violin copy.jpg

These are for a school project about animal ornaments in different parts of the world... I'm going to do a bunch of sketches for scandinavian and germanic styles, these are just a few for the "around the world" part of the project...
Some of these are less serious than they probably should be...

First of all, in general, I must say you really have got your style, your line flow and your proportions pretty much as down as they can be. Not a lot of room for improvement in this comical style. How ybout showing us some traditional stuff?
Your use of colour is great as well, and as I mentioned befor, your lines are very precise and say alot ybout the volume they are describing. I would love to see more stuff!

    Cheers

I haven't been doing much traditional lately, which is sad because I love painting. It's just too easy to just plug in the tablet, compared to finding all the equipment to start painting, not to mention having to clean up afterwards, haha.

oh jeeeeeee, I love your characters and expressive cartoony style. stuff like this always makes me want to keep on drawing (and I must say, your watercolours are wonderful and I'd love to see some more. yummyyumyumyum)
