The Official - Draw From "What Does Everyone Look Like?" Thread

This is an activity thread for loungers to practice drawing and have fun at the same time.

    Spawned from this thread: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=151026

Feel the need to lay down some ground rules. So please read this post before participating!

    1. Permission: Anyone who wants to participate just simply needs to post a link to his/her photo. Let's try to keep it to just portraits, so try to avoid nudity. No nudity if the owner of their mugshot says no nudity either. I need to stress that you need to post a link to participate/or point to your member profile if it has a photo of yourself

    2. It's ok to make mistakes! You can make mistakes in this activity thread, it's the only way to learn to get better. For others, try to be constructive if you're giving criticism of posts. At the same time, those who are being drawn try not to be hurt if it doesn't come out as a masterpiece of some mild poking is done.

    3. Don't just be a mugshot mooch, participate! If you're posting your mug, don't just do it to get free pics of yourself from other artists, you need to participate.

    4. Have fun! If you want to do sequential art, a full blown portrait or a sketch just have fun with it.

** Special Rule: if you post here drunk you have to participate! - Yeah, you know who you are!

Rules may be modified at any time. (sorry for the redo - VB doesn't like copying posts with attachments)

This is an awesome idea. I just got really into drawing quick portraits a couple of days ago and I would love to do a bunch of these later. I'd start right now, but I'm in between classes and don't really have time at the moment.

By the way, every picture I've posted so far is free to use for anyone who wants them. The same goes for any pictures I may post in the future, unless for some strange reason I say otherwise (can't imagine why that would happen though, since if the picture is that bad I wouldn't put it on the internet in the first place).

i had a similar idea awhile back for this sort of thread. which i was going to pitch to have created if there was positive feedback from the community interested in participating. (mainly because i have an enormous amount of photos of users from this site saved to my computer that i feel slightly guilty about using as reference)

i think it ought to be in the activities section (but not the challenge arena), as it should be an opportunity to almost mentor people through various appraoches of how to tackle working from a photograph/creating likeness.

although the idea i had for this involved a user, let's say you, picking one image and having everyone work on the same thing for that week. not really with the goal of having a poll or compitition at the end, but just so everyone can get a grasp of how other people work from the same starting point.

but i dunno if that would be the best way to proceed. as it'd involve you either digging through the 'post your pics' thread and asking for permission, or having a subthread for image suggestions (much like the ideas for CHOW topics, etc)

you should take the initiavie to host this properly, as i think it can be a valuable addition to the website.

good luck! i think this will be fun.

    Thanks Grief!

I was thinking this was kind of a lounger activity so that the rules are looser, which would give you more flexibility. For example, I thought yours and Buckweisel's comics were rather hilarious involving that thread that spawned this.

And yes, I will actually participate drawing too.

Not bad! You certainly have much better line quality than I do when drawing. You gave him a haircut!

I'll have to draw some peeps...yay for something to do at work!

*Updated sketch* Still unfinished...realized the right eye position was wrong, and created more problems for myself attempting to correct it. XD Would like to get it a little more polished before I quit though.

This is an awesome idea. This will be fun! (I will draw as much people in this thread as possible, but they will most likely be bad, but hey, at least they will improve with every one I do!)

This was an awesome idea! I'm not too great at exact likenesses, but I love painting faces.

You've got strong features Aphotic Phoenix, those are exactly the kind I like best. I promise I'll make it more interesting, this is just the groundwork

    Update (not finished just yet!):

I'm pretty sure I've seen other artists do similar textured portraits, but I'm just experimenting here

Sentinel., you make my lines feel wooden and stiff now that i see 'em side by side. i'm pretty clumsy on my wacom to get much curvature to my line quality. i shoulda made the brow and cheekbone stronger and more pronounced, oh well.

Grief - I cheat I keep my Wacom angled to the right so I don't have to turn my wrist as much.

I wouldn't consider your lines as a drawback, your style is bold and graphic.

It was a really nice surprise to see the posts this morning. I had connection issues last night so couldn't get on (or it would stop sending/receiving data within minutes of logging in). Definitely will be working on a few of you guys this weekend though!

I hereby grant permission to use my likeness for this awesome idea. Of course, I can't actually FIND the post where I left my photos in that massive thread, but should anyone find them they are fair game. Also, you can find another pic of me by clicking my profile name, which is also fair game.

I've got 5 illustrations to finish in only 20 days, so I don't know that I'll have time to participate any time soon Maybe a quickie this weekend...

I'll get on to some of these this weekend. In the meantime have what I posted. Boy did that ages to find, but was fun re-seeing a load of pics of everyone else.

I didn't think it was possible to be called an artist when you have nothing to say. It's like being a writer who publishes individual words as books and expects to be praised for it.

My pictures are on pg. 191 and 198 of the O.W.D.E.L.L. thread if anybody wants to draw me.

Don't draw the asian guys standing around me in pg. 191 without checking in first. They don't know about this "draw people" thread, haven't give permission to be drawn, and are lawyers. (I wouldn't want anybody to get yelled at.)

I also wanted to note if people are having a hard time finding pics of themselves to draw (since the old thread is MASSIVE BLACK™ **** -this in no way was an endorsement for Massive Black some restrictions apply, void where prohibited), you can also upload a Profile Picture to your User CP.

That way we can simply click on your profile and see a photo.

    could i also propose a few semi-rules:

1.) post a link to your images (or posts containing your images) if you wish to participate and have your mug used for reference. its the lounge, we're too lazy to dig through the internets for your posts.

2.) by participating in having your ugly mug drawn you willingly agree not to get overly defensive if someone creates something that you see as putting you in a negative light or is not exactly flattering. meaning if someone draws you as a nazi leprechaun with bad teeth, you'll need to smile and shrug it off and not take it as a personal attack.

    3.) have fun dooods.

Sure, I thought I was kinda clear with the permission on Posting a link for permission, but apparently not. - no snarkiness or sarcasm in the reply.
