Matte_Art- looks like your head is too small in the sketch! that can be easily remedied though- and i like the protective nature in the piece too, it's very sweet

dwinbotp: I'm all for boy toys. Just don't make him too pretty. That's a lovely pose, though.

Mirrored it earlier and fixed some glaring balance issues. Now it's mainly playing with costume details and deciding precisely what he's holding in his other hand. My Oberon is a lazy, regal, vain creature with a plan to get back at the Queen who loves to toy with him.

Thanks for the comment rinjii. As for right now, I think I'm going to continue on the beaten path that I'm on and possibly adjust later... I'm mainly just trying to focus on getting some digital painting fundamentals down... This is only my second attempt at anything digital in about a year and a half. I've just finally decided eff it and I'm going to do it.

Jason Snair: That's looking pretty nice, but the hand nearest to the face still doesn't seem like it has any weight to it. If you really want to make the scene believable, make him really look like he's slumping in the chair. It would push more weight down onto the hand and thus make it crumple a bit more and the fingers would be more curved around the face. I'm really digging the mood lighting you have going on here though, can't wait to see this one finalized.

Mercuralis: It's looking nice for sure! I like how it seems pretty soft. I can't wait until the lighting is full and the rest of it gets textured. Keep going!

Like I said earlier, I'm attempting to get back into digital painting, so crit me to the bone
My goal is to be able to participate in the queen one (#200) and hopefully get it look nice.
I've also come to the realization that a white canvas is terrible for me to paint on, so I'm starting a new trend for myself by adding a base color first and then coming back in with white to estimate lighting, then color It seems to be a good workflow for me... let's see it go all the way, huh?

    Here's the before-bed-update...

i like this topic so want to give it a try, see if my drawing skills is up for this x)
anyways, my idea, i had a bit trouble trying to understand what this consort is ( my english is somewhat restricted )so at first i thought of him as her champion but looking thru the pictures a bit and trying to understand the complicated descriptions it looked like he/she is more of some sort of lover?

still not really sure, but i sketched out an idea i got, if im gonna be able to do this i need to go practice my perspective now

edit: missed to upload the picture x)
wich i dont know how to do now so heres a link to it ><

Artina - Queen consort - first sketch

    Hey everyone,
This is my first sketch. I am going for something more Mesoamerican. I was inspired by the sacrifice scene in apocalypto. Since this guy is not the king, he is not as feathery. And his nether regions are not as flamboyant or decorated. Color is up next.

Artina: Nice idea. I was toying with doing something along those lines as well. Great details, though. Really try to nail the colors that they used. Could be really cool.

    wips: round 3

An update on the wips. Added some more details. Still got to work on the arms and add a big royal chain around his nek. Also got to work on the top of the chair behind his back.

I also added a quick color wip. Just to see how it could look.

MJ It looks like his arms are a little short. Tips of the hands should come down to mid-thigh or so.

AvisNocturna........I'm really liking yours so far.......the colors are turning out great...It's soft and smooth.....keep up..............But there's one tiny little thing incommodating me..........it's the piece of the red fabric that appears above his head........right now it looks like something coming out of his head....

Hope I've helped.....or just ignore my miserable comment....

I decided to go in a completely different direction fo what was supposed to be for this CHOW. I won't be entering my piece as I want to focus on the piece as a scene rather than specifically on the character of the consort.

For those who were curious about what I was doing here, is the drawing so far.

I still need to work out any anatomical issues that I know must be there but I haven't yet seen. If anyone see's anything that needs work, let me know. I'll try and get around to posting critiques for the other entries. So far they're looking really good.

For progress on this piece, (I do hope to finish it, I'm not sure how exactly yet, be it painting or a simpler more graphic approach. Maybe I'll do a couple of versions, just to try out both ways) just swing by my sketchbook. The link's below.

    Good luck everyone.

Okay... I'm going to call this finished... at least for the moment. It chugged along fast enough that I think I can let it sit through tomorrow and then see if I hate it or not tomorrow night.
