Two Ideas, Crit Needed!

Hey everyone,
This is my first time posting anything here. I have this project that I'm working on right now and I could use some help. Here are two different ideas that I had for this animation to work out. In one, he makes it, in the other, he doesn't. Which one do you think works better? Choose whichever one you like, and then please give as much critique as you can on it. I'd like to make it as good as possible before I have to turn it in. Thanks for any ideas you have!

Context - animation tells a story: what story are you telling?

If your character is a bit comedy - then the first one. It shows him failing a bit.
If he's a bit cool - then the second one fits the bill better (but sort out the walk at the top)
The second one is a bit dull though - I will say that. If he's uber-cool - surely he'd do a roll or spin or something when he lands

Only you know what you're trying to achieve though.

Everything moves in arcs not straight lines.
your staging looks like an old 2d shooter, try and get something both legible and interesting. The reason there is no story, is that there is no struggle.

Thats all most stories are (there are exceptions of course)

A characters struggle to get past an obsticle. you resolve the situation so fast that it registers as an easy way out, looks lazy.

Also let me diffuse this one in advance... just in case: There is no such thing as not having enough time. People need 8 hours of sleep a night. Animation students need about three.
