    IDW #94: Transport for Two

    Topic: Transport for Two

Background: Totally open round as far as I'm concerned. 'Two' doesn't mean it necessarily have to be human beings even. Just remember spring is around the corner...sort of, but it's nice to pretend it is, right? That said, go wild and use your imagination. It's supposed to be a lighter topic for fun. One thing though, the concept must be clear without a description!

Next round I've got a more unusual topic in the pipeline, but I was too tired this week to figure it out properly so it'll have to wait another week.

    Brief:
    1. Design and draw a means of transport for two.
    2. That's it... now draw!

    Deadline: Friday, March 6

    This one sounds awesome!
An initial idea: ok, actually the first thing I thought of was a flying machine, but somehow I got stuck on tracks... is too close to a kettenkrad?

and yes: the idea is that she runs and hops on two sexy legs. there's some manner of suspension system under the cab part.

    fun!

Heh finally some sketches in here Was afraid this round would go by unnoticed..

Deon: I'd invest some more time in getting your idea together. I love the Kettenkrad, but right now all your designs look like they're made for one person + someone extra, while the topic really is about something designed for 2 people from the start. It's like a bike or motorcycle, you can sit on it with two people, but it's much more easier and fun riding it by yourself. Try and think of something that really plays on it being specifically fun for 2 people I'd say.

Guggemmaneuver: Looks cool, I like them legs Just not sure about it being for two persons (or the overall scale actually, there's two different sizes of figures in there atm).

Thanks for that Yoitisi - I hope I'm getting more on track with the two-person thing. Here's try #2 - this one needs two people to steer it - do you think that comes across? I hope I can make it look fun to drive - Personally i'd kill for a little tracked vehicle

    Hello everyone,
this is my first post on this forum. I'm a new member (today) but have been lurking for a while. I've been practicing vehicles lately and this challenge is what got me to register for this site.

I just found this challenge today and immediately began neglecting everything I needed to be working on at work to sketch some thumbs and then settled on one I liked. The second image is me fleshing out one of the thumbs at a much larger size. I hope to finish the sketch tomorrow and begin painting tomorrow night. Great stuff so far and good luck to everyone!

That might be taking it a bit far though; noche, the point is, your concept has to be strong enough to read obviously without a paragraph explaining it—if it doesn't stand up on its own then you've failed, but you're not gonna be kept from the poll if you've got a sentence or two as well. (Unless Yoitisi's feeling particularly harsh this round?)

Hehe; deon, a tracked motorbike with two sidecars? noice.
You'd need some pretty nice coordination there though to get it running smooth.
And guggemmaneuver, very cool sketch there

I was wondering if the deadline of Friday was firm? First challenge, just curious.

ianruff: Treat it like a firm deadline, though sometimes both this one and chow will slip sometimes. (We are people with human priorities too. :]) But if you don't treat it like a firm deadline then you'll let yourself procrastinate a bit and maybe miss the actual deadline. Yoi will let you know if there end up being any major moves for it!

guggemmaneuver- Cool! Reminds me of the metal gears a little in mgs.
Deon- those second second round of sketches look great. The two sided motorbike is pretty interesting.
ianruff- welcome man and good start with the sketches.

I wanted to chip in this one also. I was looking at some old aircraft designs yesterday and started going with it. Little cleaning up on the perspective and tweaks and I'll get into the painting later on today.

    comments forthcoming on other entries.

i still have a ways to go with this and... having never taken a vehicle concept to completion i'm a bit apprehensive about the next steps. any pointers? what else does this need? obviously cockpit / 2 seat detail, which i intend to add.

    thanks in advance

    GAM 5, that's perfect!

Looking good so far everyone! Man, I hope I can finish this to the level that I want. Gotta come up with a cool name too.

EDIT: that is a conspicuously non ladylike appendage between the legs on the front view!

trashy>>> heh... looks cool, like the clear light in this comp. Given the ladder i take it your transport is docked? Why the large body / side rocket structures? liking the retro feel. does the front circular part do anything?

ferrous jack>>> these are looking cool. i like how they both have the feeling like the front suspension could be adjusted.

ianruff>>>This is looking pretty sweet, although i'd like to see some landing gear or how it looks when not in action. Thanks for the comment! And heh... duly noted on the conspicuous appendage.

Got to work on this a little during lunch. Slow going.
Guggemmaneuver: circled the gear. I doubt I will get isometrics or anything like that completed for this. I'll be lucky to finish this image!

I am having some difficulties in my initial sketches with a rounded section of the transport sketches(canopy/domes), Also My initial sketches were "Vehicles for Two" not 'Transport for Two' ^_^

On that thought, I don't see why an automated transport wouldn't work, even elevators are transports, and beyond the buttons they're automated. Don't let cynics stop your thinking Noche, You may as well try whatever you had in mind.
Besides this is still the sketching/discussion phase, not even finals yet. I suspect talking about the ideas we have, how, and what, and why they work the way they do; openly, will help improve the final renders, and maybe even help ID grow.

    ~
P.S. I'm not at a scanner right now, so I'll throw up my sketches later, hopefully.

Edit: Scans, Just some thumbnail quality sketches, I can explain the bad perspective, I couldn't find my ruler ^_^ and I’m sticking to that excuse.
IDW #94: Transport for Two IDW #94: Transport for Two

I suspect I wont have a chance to scan them If I push any of these further, However if I did, I am sort of feeling 1 and 4.
I think I was going for a hover style craft for #1 with two pilots on the sort of wings/guns?
On 2 I was going for some sort of bi plane, of some sort, loll, I dig the rear wings but the front/sides wings I would probably just remove/cut off partway (because I think they look awkward.
for 3 I like the idea I had, but It's really difficult to read, It was meant to be a form of submarine with pilots in the fins that piloted each fin.(but where are the fins, I know) It's needs more readability and precision.
and I like 4,Its the most practical and readable, and I dig the silhouette it would create, however I suppose it lacks originality ?
    ~~
BTW, if anyone would like to push any of these digitally and call it a collaboration, that would be awesome. They do it all the time in music. ^_^

Last edited by Mr_S_14; March 5th, 2009 at 10:18 PM. Reason: Yay, I got scans up.
