Hey RedSquirrel, great sketchbook man. I love your use of line and your watercolours are really beaut, I wish I had that sort of skill and patience with traditional media. I can definitely see a Froud influence, which is awesome. Keep it up!

Amazing watercolour use! Be careful with anatomy: sometimes the head-body attachment, or the shoulder placement, look a bit off. Anyway, good work! keep it up

Woow the last one is amazing! All those details are crazy! Sweet work, man. I can't find anything to critique on on that one.

A tip when taking photos of your work, try and use a tripod and take the photo in a bright room. If you do not have a tripod, then stack up some books or something and take the pic.

phew...How long did it take you to put all the patterning in her dress in? Nevermind all of the vines/roses! That's lovely. Very regular too. Always had trouble drawing duplicates of the same thing.

And...one more, how big is the piece? Thanks! looking forward to seeing the rest

Wow, the last one is looking really good! Very John Bauer-ish, not many people are able to pull that feel off. O: Is this watercolour?

Btw watch out on the hand, I think her wrist looks a bit too thin and could maybe be a bit thicker there.

Well finished that last one, her face doesnt look in focus -_- There are about a million things I overdid in this pic, I got so bored of it in the end.
Also took a better pic of the angel lady.

Freddy, piece is a little smaller than A2.
Lord M it's all watercolour except for the highlights which are white acrylic mixed with watercolour and the odd bit of pencil. I can't really see if the wrist is too thin or not, there is too much going on in it now x_x
Thanks everyone, I really need to get back to studying the human body again.
    And again
    and again.

You. are. AMAZING! It's almost scary the amount of details you can put in your works. No, I'm lying, it's just awesome.
I so wish you could get better quality images because I feel like there's so much we're losing here, but what we see isn't little at all. You make me feel like a kid again, lost in a land of magic. Yeah, no kidding, I do love your art and technique that much

Your last couple of pieces reminded me a little of this artist:

Maybe it's the smooth almost glowy feeling they have? Not sure.

I love the painting in post #129; the details and colors really turned out beautifully. In fact all of your fantasy watercolors have this wonderfully dreamy feel. I'll definitely be following this sketchbook.

Those last two pics are just .

You're awesome, brilliant, fantastic and so forth. You should do watercolour tutorials, so we could try to be as awesome as you are. How on earth did you do those dresses... And if you do some über awesome tutorial, I promise to try it.

I should probably try to use larger papers too... in A4 one just can't add that much awesomeness... Excuses for not doing as cool works than you do.

Did this a while ago and only just got round to pics today. I wonder if there is an easier way of taking pictures of gold leaf?

Woooooow, that is insane. All the details are jaw-dropping, it's like one of those posters which you can look at for ages and find new details all the time.

Btw, wondering what kind of mixed media you used in this?

Beautiful watercolors! I love seeing traditional art here. Your details are amazing. Maybe it would show up better if it was scanned? But it looks awesome as is right now. Thanks for the inspiration!

    Thanks all,
Usual mixed media is watercolour, ink, acrylic, colour pencil, pastel. I have tried scanning in gold leaf but it goes some horrible colour, also a lot of my work is far too big to scan. Perhaps having photoshop would help me to clean up the naff pictures I take. Yes, I don't even have a copy of Photoshop yet -_-
Right enough of this stuff and time to get back to basics and practise

    I am bad at perspective.

Love your illustrations. Your use of color is fantastic for classical childrens book illustration. very easy on the eyes, yet detailed. love the accents of gold flake.

That golden leaf painting makes me weep with joy. It's hard to describe with words how unique your work is.
    I'm just loving it all.

Love your last post! I see you take alot of inspiration from John Bauer. One of my favourite illustrators. I like the gold as well. Makes it pretty and shiny!

    Keep up the good work!
