    quick sketches

Here are some sketches I did. The squid was a terrible rendering from memory. The hat and person were from life. The eye was copied from a Barrington Barber book.

    more drawings

Here are some drawings I did for my figure construction class. The drawing of the man sitting in a chair is a Rembrandt copy, and the bones are copies from Sheppard's Anatomy. The Rembrandt copy is disproportionate.

For concept art club, I have to make scifi-themed work. Here are a few sketches of animals I came up with.

This is some sort of insect-like creature I made up. I painted it in photoshop, and spent an hour on it.

Here are some copies I did of George Bridgman's constructive anatomy. Hopefully, this will improve my drawing a little.

    Arachnid beetle thingy

Here is some sort of arachnid beetle thingy I made up. I'll do more insect and arthropod studies and hopefully be able to paint better insectoid creatures in photoshop...

    Sphere Practice

Well, I decided that I need to do A LOT more practice on my basics, so I made 10 spheres in photoshop. I didn't use the gradient tool because I need the practice, and I didn't blend the spheres because I didn't feel like it. the references were found using google. Feedback would be appreciated.

I'm glad you're focusing on the basics. Try using a combination of both hard and soft edges, and maybe some better references with shadows and stuff. Oh yeah, sharpen your pencil too!

Jamesy- thank you for the advice.

I decided to do a study of an image of a bee.
The reference image was from http://greenerloudoun.files.wordpres...ey_bee_web.jpg. This was done in photoshop, and took half an hour.

I worked a bit on the crab man picture, and made a few major changes. Once I get ahold of a scanner, I'll post some of my sketches. Comments and tips are appreciated.

Well, I refined it a bit... I decided to use a tetriad color scheme and try to make the composition halfway decent. Any suggestions would be awesome.

It's kinda weird that nobody else has posted in here besides me... You should keep in mind that not all edges are that sharp, so I'd soften them up a little bit because everything looks flat, even with the shading. Also, the colors are..um..not pleasing to look at... Go read about some of the more successful classical painters (i.e. Sargent, Velasquez, etc.) and copy some of their paintings. Understand how they used colors then apply what you learned to your creatures. Anyway, hope you're having a good productive break and I'll see you when school starts next week!

    Jamesy- Thanks for the input!

Here is a study of The Count Duke of Olivares on Horseback by Diego Velasquez.

I spent about 3 hours on it in photoshop, and then got frustrated (that's probably a bad sign >-<). The reference image was from http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._Horseback.jpg.

    Skull

Here's a skull. I copied from a national geographic magazine. I'm pretty sure it is a human skull, but it was in an article about neanderthals, so it might be a skull from one of our recently extinct relatives. Like most of the current posts, it was done in photoshop. I just bought a new scanner, so hopefully I'll be able to scan in a ton of drawings to add to this sketchbook.

    Spidemingo

I drew this in photoshop, hopefully there's depth in it? I guess it's a cross between a flamingo and a spider monkey. Suggestions on improvement please
