Hey Jeremy, the Sargent study looks pretty cool, I don't think I've seen the original of this, but some crits maybe on the drawing, careful how you place the nostrils, they are out slightly, but also the eyes are slightly out as well.. but you are doing awesomely on values.. =)

Keep your portraits and figure studies going, only thing I would keep in mind would be the placement of attributes on the face.

WIP of character design (Google God)

I'll probably refine it a bit more, but not digging it too much, so I doubt I'll take it to a
    super-finished level.

Get outside the box with your ideas, push them further, seems like your complacent with your work. Try making a brainstorm or "brain web" and develop your concepts through that, its basic, but it works ( especially for artists block ). Keep going though, your getting there.

Thanks Odayga. The brain web idea sounds cool; could you explain it further? I'm not really sure exactly what you mean by it.

sounds like you got an interesting idea there for your illustration. i agree with the above comment. try to go more crazy and dynamic. I think your value scheme right now doesnt go dark enough and everything is kinda falling into the same key.

Some good work here bro, Dante's inferno looks pretty damn good imho. For your dress study, imho.. maybe not rely too much on black it's easy to paint shadows like that imo.. but the shapes are looking very good for drapery still. Keep up the good work bro. =)

Thanks kungfoowiz, good advice; I only used black for shadows just because I was making it real quick and gestural.

    Used colored pencils for these

dude, you killed it with those portraits! very sweet stuff indeed.

a good exercise i think you should do a lot of is the single line contour drawings where you dont pick your pencil up from your paper or go over the same mark twice.

also try doing some limited mark drawigns where you only allow yourself like 10 marks in order to draw something. If you do this for a week or two you will see your economy improve.

The ink/wash piece a few posts up is sick!
Composition wise, it's hard to tell where my eyes are supposed to focus on, the left figure? the figures in the center? the ones to the right?

On the dress study, if the bottom is at the same level and same width, and the model is the same, why are they different heights? Somethings disproportionate there.

Cheers, keep up the studies man

Thanks everyone; I'm definitely getting into anatomy studies again hardcore as well as my other studies, and of course more imaginative work will be on the way.

Here's a Titian study; I really need to do digital painting every day to get more used to it.

Odayga: I'm doing them every day now, I'll scan some in this week.

I'm working on the character of the week challenge now, as well as concepts for Hansel and Gretel, so I'll have stuff up for that later this week.

Here's a photo study; first time tackling foliage like this so it looks really chaotic.
I need to do more environments for sure; trees are tough! Any advice would be very helpful.

Hey Jeremy thank for your support over in my sketchbook. This looks good for a first try as it's no easy task to paint foliage. I think it reads well.

Awesome work Jeremy, just a quick paint over, think you could maybe play with the expression of your edges a bit, your strokes tend to all look the same for all surfaces, so something to think about. Also could play with variation in colour. Hope helps.. =)

Nice painting, but I think that it is a bit looking
blurry, maybe Kungfoowiz did a good paintover.
Anyway, nice to see you working, try to increase
your work rhythm and you will be improving more
faster. We are waiting your next update. Good luck.

Yo mate, great collage . Also i like very much the shapes u got in the portraits up there.
The edge play that kungfoowiz did in the landscape, i think enchanced the work. Its reading better. Yooo i understood its about dantes inferno without reading that its about it , i guess thats a good thing
    Keep up studying mate!!
