Red face High School cant stand genitals.

Well, in the past when i whipped out my sketchbook in class --while the teacher was babbling -- when i start sketching usually a person next to me would start chuckling when they saw one of my human figure designs/studies with a half oval where their groin is. So now im making a larger and much better picture to bring to my teacher along with other human figure pics with the full penis. I wonder how things will go...

Anyone else have these problems in highschool?

Also its usually only penises not vag's becuase im practicing male anatomy which includes the genitals.

I think you're safe sticking to the half oval. I don't think the cock has anything to do with rhythm, balance, movement, proportion, etc. of the nude male figure from the mind.

Save it for live drawing or privately at home (however you roll)

Uhm... you're in high school... what do you expect?
Mental maturity of a lot of teenagers isn't exactly at it's peak yet.

I remember one of my first few life drawing classes at tafe, the kids there just couldn't grow up. I wanted to deck them when we had our first rubenesque female model.

Mine does. It also seems to control most of my decision making.

Yes, yes, yes. High School is where the scum of the world flock. Where all levels of stupidity and immaturity bleed and fester and rot the minds of millions of students. Oh, I hate it so. I too get made fun of quite often for my art, luckily I don't take life drawing at High School, it's at a college. Every single day I roll my eyes and cringe repeatedly at the stupidity of the conversations I hear at that dreaded place. I honestly wish that the fires of perdition would destroy me and grant me redemption from that place...

Anyone who is throwing a big stink over seeing a penis or ass or whatever in a drawing is very vulnerable to criticism right back if you are creative with your words.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

What ever, my entire paragraph was a tad exaggerated. Perhaps not the scum of humanity, but idiots with extremely cruel intentions none the less.

Just what I was thinking. My high school was all kinds of awesome. I used to just sit in front of my locker and draw and other people on break would stop to watch and we'd have a conversation. Some people even tried to buy pictures off of me a couple of times. It was great. I made a few good friends that way too.

    wow that's pretty awesome.

Anyway "Lelz u drew a nekked dudes, fggt" is probably the reaction I would get in school. Just dont worry about it, there's people out there that do appreciate, there will be always a few ignorant people.

Fact is, kids today don't appreciate education. I say, send them to the fields and mines and then give them education.

Or he went to high school many years ago, in the time before The Age of Money + Hype. Meh, high school exists to create an infrastructure of working bees. Not that I look down on people with boring jobs, after all, they're the people who allow us to be artists.

Art (modern/contemperary/abstract) has been sucked into the financial sugar jar, and consequently, art classes in high school now gear towards that. err why do I speak as if I know what I'm talking about?

High school was the best. But I don't think high school in Finland is exactly equivalent to that in the US...

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that pretty much every school district requires a certain amount of credits in certain courses, like you must have x amount of credits in physical education, x amount of credits in some form of art class, etc. so of course you have the kids who get put in an art class for some utterly arbitrary reason, and it just so happens that these mouthbreathers are typically the types that go "hehe you drew boobs!". They're usually the types that think art is boring and they're waaay too cool to be interested in that stuff or to even feign interest and by god they're going to let everyone know it!

Not that I take art 100% serious, I think it's good to add a healthy dose of immaturity to any situation, but hearing the same song and dance from the assclown who apparently doesn't seem to realize that you can just as easily see boobs on the internet, gets annoying. It's like listening to the same person tell the same unfunny joke, and when no one laughs he tells it again and again like no one heard him the first time

If the criticism bothers you, you really don't need to even indicate the junk (even the half circle isn't really needed). The pelvis alone is all you need for practice> Hell even male versus female isn't all that important at a high school level. Draw genderless mannikins to learn proportion and basic anatomy, as it helps to work on those fundamentals far more than capturing the various male or female bulges

Otherwise, it's best to grow a thick skin early if you want to become a better artist. You'll hear far worse criticism as you progress, because some of the best crits are brutally honest and can cut you down pretty good.

Never really needed to draw those parts of the body because my major concern is with muscle form and how it functions.

A lot of school kids draw penis, even a mate in uni still does...

This a good example of why I believe genitals shouldn't be allowed in schools. They should be reserved for us more mature folk who know how to use them...

Ilaekae speaks words of wisdom, how will I ever get to that level O Might Kitty
and I say don't care what they say, just make a nice joke referring to the fact they wish their Gershwin pickle was as big as the half oval you just drew.
I am bad I know. but that's how I would handle it. Or if they can't offer good crits then just tell them to bugger off, which would most likely be the more mature answer.... more mature than the first one I suggested anyway
