    Intro To ME!

Hello, I've only been reading this forum for a few months now and I am just amazed by what I've seen. I came here from the conceptualdesignforum somehow and haven't left since.

I'm almost 20 and have taken one year of Art fundamentals at a local community college. Right now i'm just slackin off and working for this year before going back to school for hopefully a full graphic design or illustration program.

Anyways, I've been thinking about posting but am a little intidated by the great work on here. I did something last night that I want to put up (its fanart) and wasn't sure if that is frowned upon or goes in a specific forum.

Well fanart is ok I sketch something I dig here and there, I think a lot of folks here do it. But the important thing here is that you post things from your imagination, People want to see what comes out of that head of yours.

Do not be afraid because we all started where you did in some form or another, and we all have shown off horrible work but that is one way of getting better and over your fear and the other is to not slack off on your drawing, if you are serious about doing this for a living then you have to put in the effort and not giving up and not letting things get to you.

    Good luck...

I agree with Chad. Just practice -a lot- and you'll get good. I suck right now too. I just started drawing seriously last Aprill -.- so I feel way behind everyone else but... if you don't try never know if you can do it. The whole practicing thing is a big deal of it too. I'd be interest in seeing your stuff and how you improve over time. *g* Post!!! *hops* Welcome!:chug:

Secondly - Yes, but you have to practice correctly, as I've learned first-hand.

Well, practicing its basicly another word for learning. And you can learn the wrong stuff, correct? Anyway, a specific example is when you draw people and dont use correct anatomy.

Well, to start, I was teaching myself - so I didn't exactly have anyone guiding me. It's quite difficult when you're completely new to it, and a week before your major was computer science
Luckily, I try to absorb as much as I can from the forums, irc chats, and what the more experienced artists have to say (when they have the time to share).

Exactly! Not starting with the basics, not MASTERING the basics before moving on, etc.

Ah. I was practicing on my own for couple of months before taking a formal class. I bought one of those wooden figures and was just trying to self-teach myself anatomy and just drawing whatever I saw. I guess I was lucky enough to avoid having the problem of 'bad practice.' I mean, even from my first drawing I did..I knew something anatomically was off with my dude, so I went to find out what it is. Just by putting something down and being utterly critical of yourself helps. Heh. Art major from CS then? I was a theater major myself. Just started drawing seriously last April, didn't get formal instruction til September for drawingwise, but I did take a printing class, I was so much in the dark. I did have one of my good online friends critic me (who still does ), which was/is useful, but I was more or less on my own for quite sometime.
