    The Wonders of Tea

Being unable to lock the thread myself... I can at least now ensure newcomers to it think it's a thread about tea.

Sure, there are many fancy teas, Earl/Lady Gray, Lemon... Ice... (does Ice actually count?). But let us not forget the humble normal cup of tea.

Many people don't know what the common tea is though (as I found out in Finland), and it's essentially... well... a tea bag... nothing but tea inside those beauties.

Add boiling water, some sugar and a splash of milk and you're ready for anything.

Yar, it's somewhat amazing that they're wasting what they have.

I wish CA.org's unwritten vibe of "don't waste peoples time uploading your crap two second MS Paint drawing" applied there, where although there are tons of people still very much perfecting their craft, they're at least attempting the fundamentals and such.

With Deviant Art, you question why people waste other peoples time with "I DRAWDED NARUTO, LOL WAT DO U THINK????? XDDD *insert typical drawing where some fool has established anime characters generally have pointy chins, big eyes and spiked up hair but have not even bothered with even attempting the fundamental basics of the character building process*" and you'll get a myriad of mis-informed "Well everyone has to start from somewhere!!!!!" replies.

It's fairly obvious everyone starts somewhere, but you don't have to grace dA with a drawing ANYONE could look at and go "hmmm, that X is wrong".

But that's what you get when your member base consists of a large portion of young-teens.

Of course, this large portion is probably what is driving the "OMFG THAT PICTURE HAS A WOMAN! A WOMAN HAS BOOBIES! OMG THIS ISNT FLAGGED AS MATURE!?" band wagon.

Though, ironically dA does also have an issue between Fine Art photography and "LOL I TOOK A PICTURE OF MY GIRLFRIEND TOPLESS LOL".

Fortunate CA.org exists really, else I wouldn't have a true art utopia to dwell in.

Well , also teenagers that are total beginners , don`t take art as their life or even seriously or just want to share what they think is fun , have the right to post somewhere on the internet. DA is that place There is no need to worry as long as there are places like CA , cgtalk and other places Just don`t post there if you don`t like DA. I think it can be quite funny ^^

please please please no more DA bashing threads or CA vs. DA threads.

they are old and unnecessary. They are two different sites, for two different groups of people that sometimes overlap. There's really no reason to drag this issue through the mud again.

DA is a very large site, if I spent all that time worrying about what others post, I wouldn't have time for anything else. Plus CA is a different animal in terms of direction.

That being said, what's the big deal... if the original owner complains they're being infringed upon, not just "he stole my hairstyle!" There's a provision for it.

I learned not to "put all my eggs in one basket" I find usefulness in DA, CA, and other art sites I frequent, post or lurk on. Some stuff on DA has actually led me here for more info, and some posts on CA have led me back over to DA to see more of a person's art.

Another person mentioned these are usually kids doing it for fun, not wanting to work as a concept artist.

I mean, there are legitimate learning tools for referencing, someone doing a master copy shouldn't be posted on DA? I'm quite sure the youth population doesn't even understand the term "Master Copy" and its uses.

I don't think I've ever seen an article get so many rejections before. 2200+ and counting!

Maybe that's because not everyone wants to be professional artists when they grow up and just draw things that are popular? dA is a site for everyone to participate in, not just a select few.

The only thing that really irritates me about dA right now is regarding the whole tracing issue. They are basically saying it's okay to take copyrighted work and trace it and upload it, using the excuse that it's a 'valid learning tool'. Personally I've never seen tracing as a valid learning tool... just a crutch. Not to mention, they claim that tracers are supposed to site their sources, but so many of the tracers never do yet their work never gets removed.

Isn't tracing copyrighted work / characters then publishing them as your own... uh... illegal? Someone with better knowledge of this please respond, because I'm reading a lot of conflicting info as of late.

Then they don't do a good job policing the site because there a ton of traces that people claim as their own that don't get removed.

If they're not reported well, yes - eyes can't be everywhere. Also I don't know how staffing works. I know their office is over in Hollywood and servers are in LA. Also, it's subjective. Some people throw a fit over a pose, or other stuff and some moderators may feel those coincidences are enough to take it down, while another staff member doesn't see it as an issue.

I look at it this way, if no one reports the spambots here, they'd still be left around to post crap and might get buried under other posts.

DA is not a perfect system but considering the enormity of the site, I can't expect it to. Look how much warez, and copyright violations are on youtube, rapidshare and other parts of the web.

Ack, I was unaware the "LOL dA" discussion had occured, kind of a lack of hindsight on my part :<

It's not too late, we could discuss Tea. Everyone loves (or at least should) love tea.

    I vote for Tetley.

Fine then let me go ahead and say: Then they don't do a good job policing the site because there a ton of traces that people claim as their own that don't get removed, even if reported.

I'm not the only one who's reported infractions only to be told that my violation report is "Invalid" when it is a clear violation to their own rules (whether it's due to tracing or porn reasons). The staff and mods of that site are so inconsistent it's pathetic.

I say we all bash DA, just for kicks. While we're at it, lets bring the fires and pitchforks to anime as well. Anime is always a good punching bag.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

Well, I joined up there a few years ago and the first things up my account were these really awful anime drawings, and simply having them out there for others to see outside of my family and friends drove me, for whatever reaon, to improve. Had I not put them up, as bad as they were, I don't know If I'dve made it to where I am today, art-wise. While it can be very tiresome to dig up the good stuff on there sometimes, I try to give some users the benefit of the doubt.

I don't know where I stand on the tracing issue. It just seems like it would be more of a crutch than it would be a valuable learning tool. I, personally, would like to see them get stricter with tracing, but in the grand scheme of things unless my work ends up being traced, the policy and the whole issue doesn't have any bearing on me, so I'm not terribly concerned.

Aside from my elitist views on "learning" art, we'll call it.
dA is somewhat of a nice site. At least functionality wise.

So it'd be good for them if they could sort out all the kinks and get it back to something good.

But making over 2000 people sigh in disbelief wasn't really a step in the right direction for them.

Anyway, i'm glad to see no one has mentioned Yorkshire Tea, that is not tea, it is sin.

I think part of it has to do with the fact that anime is not incredibly difficult to draw. It's difficult to draw well, but it in itself is not difficult to draw.

Of course, this large portion is probably what is driving the "OMFG THAT PICTURE HAS A WOMAN! A WOMAN HAS BOOBIES! OMG THIS ISNT FLAGGED AS MATURE!?" band wagon.
I know the feeling. The same thing happened with adonih's World War Z art.
Though, ironically dA does also have an issue between Fine Art photography and "LOL I TOOK A PICTURE OF MY GIRLFRIEND TOPLESS LOL".
    Definitely true.

By the way, I've been looking for some good stock. Could you point me in the right direction? And yes, I've seen the works of mjranum-stock.

I already stated my reasons for still being a member there Flake, to keep up to date with the stock folk there and the odd one or two artists which primarily upload their stuff to dA.

Else your suggestion is pretty obvious. It's the same mentality why I don't eat cabbage.

Anyways, cat of ninjitsu, some of the nicer stock folk i've used:

http://jlstock.deviantart.com/ - Mainly for her backgrounds, there's some gems in there.

http://kayne-stock.deviantart.com/ - Really nice for butterflies and moths. Makes creating photomanipulated fairy wings that much easier .

http://liam-stock.deviantart.com/ - Nice model stock, you've probably seen her before.

http://resurgere.deviantart.com/ - Unrivalled stock source, though again, chances are you know of them.

http://sinned-angel-stock.deviantart.com/ - Another model with some nice stock.

Because I love the variety of the grunge stock provided, i'll also throw in a non-dA link: http://www.diwiesign.com/index.php?page=stockphotos

Made some really interesting photomanips using nothing but stock from that last one many a time. Unfortunately all lost when my PC died... but hey

See, I realise the "stock photo" thing could be appealing.

Many years ago I got a DA myself for that purpose but as most of them seemed to be for non commercial use within DA itself it was mostly useless to me and I went off, bought a camera, found potential models and shot my own instead.

I get useable ref in exactly the pose I wanted rather than trying to reverse engineer a random punter in a slightly wrong pose with flash lighting.

    Your mileage may vary..

I would probably do that, but then i'd probably need some nice lighting set up, a reflector, a big area with which to take the photo and a model

Maybe when I have more funds!

Thankies for the links Mr Ninjacat!

I guess for the good of all we should let this thread die I'll lock it if it's an option in the thread tools... *checks*

XanaChama, go resurrect my old tea thread.

    http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=138983

It has a lot of good links to tea websites and some recipes.
