    I totally don't follow football.

It's funny, a friend and I went to the mall today to see Slumdog Millionaire, and the whole place was a ghost town. More room for us!

with padding, commercials, advertisements, pauses every 10 seconds, rules so clumsy even mutiple camera angles and replays are questionable, a seemingly random scoring system which is the primary source of mathematics for amerikans, bigass stage spectacles of music and celebrities for no damn reason. and every now and then some pretty remarkable displays of dudes running, throwing, or getting hit which make all the rest of the clutter worthwhile.

but i prefer me' some australian rules football.

I never watch, though football I would catch more of a glimpse of than any other sport... Yesterday I saw the very end, where the winners were hugging this man who was some awesome football player way back. He looked happier than they did! O_O It looked so jovial I got a fuzzy feelin'. Yay for Steelers!

Yay, the sports event other than the olympics that I'm actually willing to watch.

They had some good commercials this year.

That was one of the best superbowls ever. I still can't believe the last 2 minutes of either half! I think that last touchdown was quite literally the most precision guided pass play in superbowl history.

And, fyi, dam-nit, I played football in high school and called the line blocking schemes in the huddle or audibled at the line depending what kind of D we were looking at for the given play. There is a lot to know about the inside game and some of it is damn complex. Chess, Wrestling and Bar Fighting all in one. It's all broken down into protocols that can be memorized and followed. But when your bell's been rung and you can barely stand up midway through the 3rd quarter and there's a cake of mud stuck to your facemask that prevents forward-seeing... it gets quite tricky. And no matter how loudly the coach screams at you, it all sounds like cheering.

Here is a little quote to go along with what Kev said.

John L. Sullivan, the heavyweight boxing champion from 1882 until 1892, commented: "Football. There's murder in that game. Prizefighting doesn't compare in roughness or danger with football. In the ring, at least you know what you're doing. You know what your opponent is trying to do. He's right there in front of you. There only one of him. But in football--there 11 guys trying to do you in!"
