Your values make me so envious lol. Sweet updates. You really nailed the translucency of the wings. And the little hairs on the fly and the way you made the liquid look are great touches.

I have to say I loved the zombie fishes, and how you're using whites and blacks in all the right places... The fly's also very well done, so much so that I can't really say I liked it!
    Really nice!

Sonia Leticia: Thanks! Yeah I like to play with little details a lot. Much of the time though I get into it a little to early and the overall forms suffer a little bit.
    ninjacat11: Thanks, Man!
odiolitos: I'm glad you're liking the zombie fish stuff, I still have some more zombie stuff to go in this commission.

Not a whole lot of drawing going on lately. Pretty soon I'll be back to painting and the little bits of drawing I'm doing now will go away too. oh well...

Here's what I've got so far. I may come back later tonight with more drawings but that's not a sure thing, so I figured I'll just dump now.

The first page is more zombie stuff.
The second is my attempt at a saiga antelope for our (hopefully) ssg daily drawings. I hope everyone takes to this idea. I did this from memory after spending a few minutes looking at reference material. Its funny how much you don't notice in one sitting.
Alright well, with the saiga I'm not sure if I got the curve of the horns right, the structure of the eye, I think I made its head too big, and I know its legs are off, maybe to short and thick. I added extra hairy patches to it's snout and back, not sure if that's supposed to be there. I have no idea about its feet and tail though.
I'll have to look a little more carefully for tomorrow's drawing and make my skills a little keener.

Heya Nick. I love your zombie stuff.. you do a good job of styling them. They don't just look like your normal, rawrbrainsrawr person looking zombie. These look like flesh eating beasts lol. And I think you did a good job with your antelope. I didn't put that much time into mine and yours has some nice details in it. I hope the other guys are going along with with this as we are (thanks again for the recommendation of it in the first place)

incredible sketches! Sorry, you may have already said but, what do you do them in/on? (the darker ones above)

Sonia Leticia: I'm glad you like the zombie stuff. It's for a commission so in that universe they're more monster-like. Thanks for the props on the antelope!
Dipz108: Hi. The darker ones (like the fly image) are done with charcoal and white charcoal on printmaking paper like arches cover or somerset. I dust the paper with charcoal powder first, then i sketch with vine charcoal, and i draw with charcoal pencils and erase to get the lights. I use white charcoal for the finishing touches. Charcoal charcoal with charcoal on charcoal, he he.

Here's my coconut crab! I feel like I failed to communicate its massive size. But I had a good time with it anyway.

Wow. that crab looks amazing! What I really like is the texture on it, and just how clean it looks... I think the size thing may be because everything's bit in it: with smaller eyes and thinner antennae, it would show just how ridiculously big this baby is. (Well, that's me trying to improve what's already great, but anyway...)

Oh, and I forgot the antennae on mine!

Hi Nick just wanted to post to let you know how much I've enjoyed looking through your SB. Your charcoal drawings are fascinating to look at and I love your imagination. Your passion and commitment to your anatomy studies is commendable. Really great stuff and very inspiring.

odiolitos: Thanks! and thanks for the tip too! I think something about it was on Gurney's blog once, but I forget the info now. I think you got it right, show big shapes and little shapes and no middle shapes to make things look big. I dunno.
Marian Rowling: Thanks a bunch! I'm glad you like my stuff. I need to get back into doing those studies though..... I've been spending a lot of time on a commission instead. Soon hopefully.

Ok, so today I have more zombie stuff and my sea pig (floating above it's deep sea sludge-meal). I have a new fascination in sea cucumbers now. The idea of animals that move a millimeter at a time and breath through their anuses captivates me for some reason.

My guess was the fan of Lovecraft in you wanted to know what lies in the abyss by Cthulhu

Regarding the sea pig, I like how structured it looks, but the legs don't look as much as tentacles as I noticed in the ref I got. I know it's because it's actually floating, but maybe adding some movement to make them look a bit more... swirly? would help. Anyway, very nice.

Oh, and the zombie thing's coming up really neat. However, I think there's a bit of a problem in the way its chest protrudes beyond the abdominals: it looks unnatural, but not in the nice way the other stuff does. I think it would look better if you reduced that plane a bit.

Apart from those small things, everything's sweet as usual, man.

odiolitos: Thanks! What's funny is I most liked the short nubby legs/tentacles in the bloated sea pig pictures; but then when I drew the thing, for some reason I forgot all about that and drew longer legs. You're right though they really aren't tentacle-y enough. In regard to the zombie abs i guess you mean the last one in the wider frame? I see what you mean and I'll try to work through it in the final painting. Thanks for pointing that out.

Ok, this is probably all I'm going to draw today so I'm posting now instead of waiting until tonight. Olive trees are pretty interesting. I didn't know they could live for thousands of years! Its kind of cool to think that there are trees around that people from the ancient world lived with too.

raminafshari: I'll get more into shading soon.

Here's the stuff from yesterday. I ended up not really being very observant of the cow's skull, so when I went to draw it I realized I had no idea what I was doing. Oh well, better luck with the next one.
The other page is the start of the DSGs. I want to do a few loose sketches everyday or so and see how far I can get.

I did this stuff today for the "SEO Services" thread in the creature of the week forum.

Love your charcoal drawings, esp the fly. Really intricate details. LIke the direction you're going with your zombies too, it's a nice variation. =)

Wow, that tricycle rocks big time! Perspective on those is a bit tough to get together, but I only a slight problem with the board in the back, the one with two wheels and the left pedal. Everything else (which is quite a lot) is very nicely done.

Out of the other stuff, I like the kid in 0025EU (dunno what the code stands for, but it really helps point them out) and how he integrates with the background. The pose looks very natural, and very nicely executed with few lines.

0025 looks brilliant as an environment: is that a giant octopus attacking a bridge? H.P.L. would be proud

Lastly, I liked the pose on the astronaut on 0027, and how it makes him look weightless and desperate at the same time.

So... Very good job, man!! Keep 'em coming!

P.S: Is that a sea pig gone wild I see on one of the thumbnails?

odiolitos: Thanks a bunch! It's kind of funny how for my own dms I wasn't all that enthusiastic and got a little sloppy with the construction. I'm glad that you like it though.

The numbering system is from the daily sketch group. Months ago I went through and made a simple list of all the DSG's up to number 1000. So now I'm finally making a real attempt to get through them. It's a crazy amount of drawing, so who knows if I'll stick with it all the way through, but I'm having fun for now.

BTW, the topic for that one was cave painting; so I thought it would be funny if we uncovered a painting documenting a sea monster attack on a coastal village. I was thinking more octopus, but maybe a GIGANTIC sea pig would be even more terrifying!

    Thanks, man!

Ok, here we have more dsg stuff, and then a vitruvian pitcher thing I'm trying to get started for a friend; both from the other day. Then, I have the iceberg dms I'm late on and the grizzly dms I'm a little early on.
