Youre crazy prolific man, its nice to see! The chalk/pastel work is great, I like the mood and variety of them.
Good seeing some studies, too. Keep it up!

G_U_T_S: Thanks a lot, man. It's kind of funny you've got it backwards - I love HP Lovecraft and I haven't read Dante's Inferno yet. Thanks for stopping by!

SirGreenSock: Thanks for the encouragement. Hopefully I'll get some time to get some more charcoal stuff done soon.

Ok, so I didn't get anything done yesterday and all I have today is two hours of 5 min drawings. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get back on track.

Ok Here we go. The first two pages are Civardi studies from yesterday.

Today I make art for 7hours 16 minutes
I did one hour of 60 sec poses
one hour of 300 sec poses
one hour of 1200 sec poses
    two hours of Civardi studies
and one hour of drawing from imagination.

The last page there is actually the very first DSG. I think I'm going to try to throw some of those in here and there. I don't know how far I'll get with them; I'm sure I won't be able to do them all though there's like 1600 or so. For the time being though it'll be a fun imaginative exercise to help me draw without ref. This one happened to turn out terrible.

After I did my 6 hours of drawing today (which I'm counting as a full day) I decided to reward myself by making a charcoal drawing in my little charcoal sketchbook. I still had some time left after I finished it so I decided to color it in. BUT photoshop is being very laggy so I had to keep it simple and muted.

    That's all for today!

G_U_T_S: Thanks! It's really just a random drawing. Sea monsters rock though!

Unfortunately the baby was a little extra fussy today so I didn't get quite as much done as I hoped. But it tried to cram more drawings onto each page so I'm not spamming my own sketchbook as much with bad figure drawing.

Ok so today I drew for 4 hours and 15 minutes. One hour 60 sec figure drawing, 1 hour 300 sec and one hour 1200 sec and finally 1 hour 15 min of Civardi studies.

Thanks for stopping by my SB man. Your line confidence looks to be getting better. I'd suggest more gestures to emphasize weight and motion in your figures, don't worry about proportions just focus on dynamics. Keep it up man! I love all the imaginative stuff on the last few pages, too many interesting ones to point any one out specifically. cheers.

Metal Fingers: Thanks for the advice! I'll keep it in mind as I'm working on my figures.

Busy day today so I could only do half and hour of drawing while I was at work. Then it was off to a birthday thing. Anyway here's the weird little feller.

It's great to see you doing a lot of figure study, and that Kraken is really nice. Keep working hard, and I'd recommend more studies from life / perhaps photo/film studies as well.

Great work, Nick (regarding the whole sketchbook).

I'm passing your website over to a friend of mine who is a published Sci Fi/horror author in NY; a huge Lovecraft fan himself. I think your style would be great for his stories.

Gislebertus: I'm glad you like it and thanks a bunch for sending my stuff along to your friend!

Not a whole lot today. Spent just under two hours.

    Civardi study
and I colored that last charcoal drawing so I figure maybe I should color the other ones in the book; so this is my start on that.

I did about 4 and a 1/2 hours today. Not terrible but not quite where I want to be; especially for a Tuesday.

    6 pages of Civardi studies
    1 page from imagination
and then another colored drawing from earlier in the sketchbook.

dleoblack: Thanks, man. That means a lot coming from someone with skills like yours.

Again, just under two hours. I gotta get out of this lazy kick.

an hour of 120 second figure sketches
    about 45 mins of Civardi

And now I'm moving onto Bridgman! I went through about half the book a couple times before, but now I feel I'm in a better place to really approach it thoughtfully.

Hey man! You've been sketching up a storm this month. I cant really see your drawings very well. If you scan em in Photoshop duplicate the image and turn it into a multiply layer. Your sketches will pop more and your sick drawings will be awesome!

cubesoflard: Thanks for compliments. I don't open the images in photoshop I just scan them and post them as is. Buut I've made a new scanner preset for it now so it should be a little better. I might end up deciding that its too dark eventually though (all of the drawings are really light).

Ok so the first image is a self portrait from yesterday. It looks kinda like me except younger and more handsome. about 40 mins.

Today I just did Bridgman for 5 and half hours.

Hey Nick! .. You have such fantastical values going on!.. You can really make a piece pop. Some of my favorites was the guy on page 2 screaming and the doggy on page 2. All of your studies are coming along awesome as well. I'll be droppin by again soon!

Now, THAT is what a call working hard, man...

I have to say I love your charcoal stuff, but (and maybe that's my ink-crazed mind) I'd like a bit more contrast. It feels to me like some blacks could help bring focus to them. In fact, the ones you've coloured already now look more powerful to me because of that: the greater contrast may make them slightly less subtle, but it sure brings them to life. I'd suggest either colouring all of them, thus using the charcoal as a first step in the image, or trying some ink washes. I dunno, maybe that's just me...

Regarding the studies, they're sweet, man. You've got your stuff together in that area. I'd like to see you apply all those wicked anatomy chops on more stuff from imagination!

It's not like I have to encourage you that much, given how much work you put in here, but anyway... Keep 'em coming, man!

Sonia Leticia: Thanks for the compliments and the doggy is my doggy; her name is Liberty Belle
    ninjacat11: Thanks!
odiolitos : Thanks! I'm trying to be as consistent as possible and I gotta make sure I'm getting a lot done so I'm more able when the pro work starts coming in. Thanks for the tip about the darks. I've been having trouble with it for a while now, and I just don't seem to use the 6b pencils enough. I may experiment with your suggestion in the future though. Thanks!

Ok, so I've been away from here for almost 2 weeks. But I haven't been completely idle. I recently got a commission for some zombie stuff so I'll put the sketches for it up here.

So there's zombie concepting stuff and a little bit of bridgman studies. Then the charcoal drawing towards the end is a value study for the painting that's now almost done. The painting below that is a piece I did back in June without bothering to fully work it out before moving forward. Buut, I decided to put it up anyway.

    Hey there!

Those zombies look like great fun, man! The pose on the lizard man looks a bit stiff (I think the back arches a bit too much, not sure though), but otherwise, they're sweet! I really like how you're pushing the anatomy there and getting away with it. Nice!

The old man's portrait looks fine, and i like how you used the different colors in light. Maybe that's why I think the pure white highlights near his right eye look a bit off: they push that volume a bit too much forward. My guess is if you tone them down, it'll look better. That said, the rest is good stuff, so keep 'em coming!

odiolitos: Thanks for the comments. Yeah the lizard man was meant to be seen from below, in perspective, with the viewer's eye level around it's knees; but I messed it up. So now he just looks like he might fall over. I kind of like the highlights on the old man. Not because they're good or appropriate, but because it makes him look kinda slimy. Thanks for the advice I'll keep it in mind for the next one!

I did two hours and twenty minutes today. Not really great.

    Anyway, more zombie fish.
