    Sketches on Fire

Ha ha I'm too lazy to update daily . I told myself I'd start an SB after the NZ workshop, it's (a little) late but here it is.

Below (next post) is a random selection of sketches and stuff from the last six months. The skis were for a topsheet design competition and the SP was for NZ thunderdome, but I didn't finish it in time. And a bunch of random stuff too.

    Thanks for dropping by

You're off to a good start, I like the one with the computer laptop the best.

    thanks orange, appreciate the encouragement.

Today's piece, playing with line and colour. My bro doesn't like the head, but I don't mind it a little distorted like that. meh...

    Nice start to a SB.

I really liked that guy with the eyepatch up there.

Can't wait to see more and thanks for stopping by my SB.

Here's a couple more, just practicing different stuff. The guard character is unfinished and will probably stay that way; I didn't really plan the concept and it degraded into that situation where you don't like it so you change something, then you change something else, then you change the thing you originally changed and so on. I learned quite a bit from it though, so yeah. Hope you like, please crit:

That character concept is really nice actually. The values are great, though a little dark over all. The face studies could be refined a little but overall quite a nice start to your sketchbook. How about some traditional stuff?

Thanks for the advice Janos, glad you like it. I spent a lot of time on the values on that one, mostly zoomed right in though - should have paid more attention to the overall range yeah. REALLY appreciate another person's impressions, I tend to get tunnel vision a lot.

Decided to revive this thread. Head Studies!!! Oh and zombies. And a treehouse.

So these are in a moleskine, I decided to try them out. So far not really impressed, I like the smoothness but I think the paper's too thin. Does anyone have any tips on how to get dark values on moleskine paper without warping it? I think I might have a go at making my own sketchbook next, maybe a reloadable cover type thing so I can mix up my papers when I want to.

    Anyway hope you enjoy.
