I haven't seen the 2nd one yet. I missed it at the theater, and none of the video stores have it. And its not on pay-per-view! I really wanna see the 3rd on in the theater but I gotta see the 2nd one first. Btw, did you guys see the "Primetime: Behind the scenes of LOTR?" It was kinda cool to see the props and stuff.

I saw a really cool seminar at the San Diego Comic-Con last year: WETA Workshop took a guy and turned him into an orc, and also had the guy who played the main Uruk-hai and also Sauron (which kinda killed the magic of it all). They said it took ten hours to put the makeup on for the Uruk-hai. Ten hours!!! Wow. WETA is cool because they said they try to use computers as little as possible for their special effects; they rely mainly on latex/makeup and miniatures...the good ol' fashioned way!

If he'd pay $50, he could've seen it last night.

Really? 50 bucks? Where? I'm gonna either see it at the discount theater in february or when it comes out on video. Its sold out here for three weeks for all showings, starting at 12:00 AM the morning it comes out. AnarchyA02! How could a video store not have LOTR 2? What kind of crappy establishment are they running?!! You need to see it.

Really excited about it, especially since I get to go and see it with friends I haven't seen in a while. They got tickets for the 17th, and then realized that there was a midnight showing on the 16th... so they bought those, too. Crazy kids.

*g* I think Gollum was the best actor last year. I can't wait to see the man in action again!

yeah I was really PO'd when Serkis didn't get an Oscar nod...he was awesome. I'm sure he and the movie will get Oscars for the third installment.

Is it true that Return of the King is four hours long? They'd better have an intermission...

Here at USM the avi-geeks hijacked one of our big lecture halls that had a theater-sized screen and played the extended editions to the first and second films. It was nearly nine hours of LOTR glory! I imagine when the extended edition of ROTK comes out we'll have ourselves a thirteen hour party. I just hope when we do this, we can bribe some nursing students to cathederize us. Bathroom breaks are incredably overrated.

One thing however, I really hope they give us more closure to the whole Saruman thing. I always suspected that they wouldn't include the "scouring of the shire" at the end but to not have that confrontation between Saruman and Gandalf at Isenguard is just wrong. I know, I'm sounding like an incredable geek but there are somethings you just can't mess with.

btw. How many TRUE fans do we have here? i.e. people who've read the books before even the first movie came out?

I read the books when I was 12 years old...funny thing is, I read all of them but the last few chapters of the last book, so I know how it "concludes" but not what happens after.

My favorite book is 'The Hobbit,' for some reason.

I wonder why he never made a movie of The Hobbit. I liked that book as well and would have been a nice prequel.

    the hobbit

rumors abound stating that peter jackson MAY do the hobbit. from filmhobbit.com:

    "PJ talks 'The Hobbit'
Peter Jackson has basically been the true Lord of the Lord of the Ring. With 3 epic flicks basically in the can, a wickedly huge fanbase, and a gillion bucks in his pocket.....You'd think he'd wanna distance himself from Tolkien for a while. Seems as though, he's down for one more. New Line Cinema honcho (and LOTR producer) Mark Ordeskey has been teasing people with the idea of making The Hobbit into a feature film. For those who don't know The Hobbit is the novel that came before the trilogy and follow Bilbo Baggins around on an adventure through Middle Earth. The flick would, basically, be a prequel. Ian McKellan has been quoted on saying he's been wanting this, but up until now PJ has never really commented on it at all. That is of course until now. "New Line Cinema had yet to speak to me about The Hobbit and said there were some difficulties related to the rights for the book" said Jackson "But certainly if they want to talk to me about it, I'd be keen. It would be wonderful to complete the set of films." Damn. Sounds like it just might be a go. "

    I going to a triple feature...

Imagine a cinema, rent for a single purpose: To beam those three flicks in one night. I'm counting seconds as well... This will be heaven for 9 hours...

They have that scene as the opener to ROTK according to the extras on the Two Towers Extended version DVD. They decided it would not fit the flow of the second movie to put a rather long speech scene after the Battle of Helms Deep which I would have to agree with.

Reading the reviews, the Saruman/Gandalf confrontation scene isn't in the ROTK. Looks like you'll have to wait for the extended DVD version to see it. I think they eliminated the scene with the Mouth of Sauron as well.
