Thanks guys, love all round
I should update more regularly!
Starting a new regime of 1h of quickies and 1h of imagination, no ref open allowed! Concentrating on environments at the moment for some personal projects.
Photo studies, bottom one from imagination.
Sargent watercolour studies, bottom 2 from imagination.
awesome progress in your sketchbook; it's a pleasure wandering through it all.
Very inspiring, keep up the great work is all I can say really!
Your still life is ridic, beautiful painting, the colours and values all seem very solid to me.
The render of materials on your castle in the sky is great, very believable.
Your envs from imagination are very nice too with good designs. My crit would be for your figures from imagination they seem weaker, sometimes things are a bit off, slightly short limbs with odd weight distribution but your sketchbook is great love it
I don't even know where to begin, your environments, still-lifes, portraits, even your gesture work is excellent! Keep doing what your doing, Alex, and expect me to stop by fairly often!
art is never finished, only abandoned~Leonardo da Vinci
That's a cool idea, painting on a 3d base - I should try that sometimes.
Keep up the good work man, you're doing great! Now, get back to work
Took a day off yesterday, saw John Carter, I loved much of the Art, mainly the environment stuff, especially some of the interiors. Must be a real skill knowing how to make them impactful on a huge screen, I noticed many simple shapes. I have a tendancy to just overdo stuff and I think for a lot of the cinematic stuff, less is more. It must be so awesome for the designers to see this stuff on the big screen, a real unique experience to see the work of your wacom and stylus that large. Any how I have ordered the Artbook and hope to see lots of goodies. I found the costume design pretty meh, standard mid eastern style decorative stuff, which is what I like but didn't find any of it very original. As a film, well I am indifferent - it was avatar, but not as annoying - very watchable. Some aspects reminded of the very first star wars film, it had "something" about it, like a collection of lots of little quirks and stuff which made it stand out somewhat from the pack of the films I've seen in the past year or so.
Lol, ok so this turned into a film review. Anyhoooo, I think either way if your an Artist in all these "entertainment" type fields, deffo worth checking out.
Caught up on yesterday's study, JC Leyendecker, 1h
Today's study 3x 20min Kandinsky
Here's a funny chap I started, he's going to have some kind of electronic flying pet. I was thinking of the "Sci Fi Hunter with Pet" theme from an old challenge. But might do something else instead. This was originally meant to be applied for the Leyendecker but turned out a bit different, I learnt a lot in that little study though.
This is my Kandinsky inspired brain fartage
Great stuff, man. Love the flow in your enviroments
Check your favourite Imaginary Friend's Sketchbook here (oh and don't forget to say hi)!
random crap from memory^^ mmm i don't do enough really :s i still don't know any anatomy after all this time, more memory more memory, apply n all that
2 new pics - really up for some ideas on how to improve and take them further!
Really appreciate you doing some anatomy studies Alex =) Can never do enough of that stuff =) For the forest girl, it's an awesome piece =) I don't think there's really much more you can do it tbh, other than maybe detail out a bit of the leaves closest to us.. maybe a bit more bark texture. Second pic, some of the rivets and such could use an extra round of darks.. imho.. =) Love the forest painting tho, Cheers! =)
Alex you just have such a way with colour man, love the hues in the skin of the new girl, beautiful face and there is a lot of story with the background and glowing animals and tree growing into her I think trying to add might just diminish the effect it currently has. For the env I really like it, great angle and light very mysterious but im not sure how easy it is to follow compositionally to and from that point. That is all, love the colours everywhere
TFSean - Yeah for that env, I don't think it's working tbh, one for the scrapheap!
Bit of an update - got some gestures and stuff of my friend from life, mixed in with a bit of Hampton anatomy.
New landscape painting, got a bigger one on DA if ur interested.
Nice updates dude. That enviro is sweet
