It's funny to hear that "years ago" - like 2008 was another .. ok fine it was another decade..

Thank you all for your comments and thoughts! Below - a Painter 12 deal from scratch.. No overlays, paint-overs, no color-pickers or eye-droppers or whatever - just me, my intuous and my small brain..

Absolutely LOVE that piece that you did in Painter...just gorgeous and and feels so much like traditional media...
on a side note, how do you find Painter 12? I'm still running 9 on another mac, I've hesitated to pick up 12 as of yet due to a few conflicting reviews...
    Great work!

Thank you all for taking a look and your notes!

@ Mike L - Thank you as well! I think this was project 1 for P12.. I have it on my Win 7 desktop and my laptop - they have changed the interface and I'm not used to it yet but generally - you will know your way around. It did not fare as well on my mac but I may have had some weird conflicts. for painting and drawing - especially the basics I like it much better than Photoshop!

Dear Miss ClassicalGirl - - no - not sure how you figure that - I started art school in 2007. I took a night part time class before but I don't know if that was anything more than a workshop.. So - more like 6 years NOW ( right prior to 2013)! ;-)

Excellent work man, those figure studies are beautiful. Do you work in a limited palette for those paintings?

nailing those edges man, think the saturation of the blue background is competing too much with the figure though. the pinkie finger is slightly off think youve flatten the hand out too much

    great work man

Your pencil drawings are just stunning! And the color in your paintings slides so subtly around the form. You've really captured beauty!

Hey Kevin more beautiful updates. I think I would love to do some copies of the painted portraits to learn more, hopefully you won't mind. Also as you are teaching now is there any hope you might have time to do a demo showing the steps to take when first trying to capture the gesture for figure drawing? Finally, less I forget, Happy New Year and happy more painting, drawing and learning.
