So good stuff. They make me drool. I always refer to your stuff when I try to get better with my lines.

    Life drawings.
Also, the workers...from photo reference ? They're impressively realistic.

Hey Kevin lovely paintings and drawings. There's an element of fun in the workmen one that I like. I'm just starting to be able to see the cool and warm temperatures in paintings and is it right that you can use it to turn a form when the values are the same?

    Thank you for your notes!

@Mawh, yes, although I would have liked to work that from life, it was in the middle of my street and I would have been hit by a bus! it is not finished but I took at as far as I could at the time.. may revisit it - we'll see..
Marian Rowling Hey Kevin lovely paintings and drawings. There's an element of fun in the workmen one that I like. I'm just starting to be able to see the cool and warm temperatures in paintings and is it right that you can use it to turn a form when the values are the same?
Hi Marian - thank you - yes you can use color shifts to show volume and turn form - I would say it can also be about chroma ( color saturation) as much as warm v cool ( which is relative to the environment of course!). Richard Schmid says, I think, that you can turn forms 70% of the way with hue shifts. But ! without value, colors are just .. pretty blobs!!! ( ok that last part I said.. )

A few new doodles.. the still life is the KW man-cave with Tony, Alfred, Norman R and my laptop ( and a safeway bag on the floor)..

head studies from life - graphite study from life and rendered later at home..

...hehe Kevin I'm sure your comments would bring a smile to Richard Schmid's face, I know they do to me. Thanks for the help, now I have started painting I'm really keen to do as much as I can.

Great update as always I especially like your KW man cave one and it's cool to read on your blog that it's for a show. I'm glad you're feeling the paint again.

Oh man, I love all of your work! Especially your paintings... they seem kinda loose and fast painted but are so precise and wonderful. Damn i wish i could do that as well. Painting my gf at the moment, as a x-mas present from life, but i just fail with my coulour mixing sooo hard. Are you using acrylics oder oils?

Anyway, great sketchbook, always watching it.

Kevin, fantastic work here, love the rendering. You're a great example of when classical drawing methods are approached in a very individual way. Awesome!

    jedininjaman - thank you !
hey Thomas - great to hear from you - how goes the work ?
Jai - I checked out the stream you guys did tonight - do you publicize that stuff other than someone randomly running across your sb ? -thanks for stopping in and your note!
_Mr_m_ - thanks - yes color mixing - it will just take "road miles" lots of mistakes - and learning how paints /different colors/pigments perform with each other. I paint mostly in oils. but have been experimenting in acrylics and soon will give WC a (nother) shot!
@udonhead - in my dreams - so now I'll just work even harder. Tony is my teacher, but I don't think I will share your comment with him (still - thank you for the good thoughts!)
    @Dark_eyes - thank you !
@prnsweeney - always appreciate your stopping in ! I will hopefully have new head studies soon!
@ Cheers Marion ( yes the man cave needs to be cleaned!!)

    a few dillies.. dallies..

    below:
sophie x 2 from life (in repose)
dottie from life and ref (standing)
juliana from life sitting ( with hand up)
    @army street from life x 2
some 30 min head studies of an italian actor ( rascale ?) and a certain S.A Actress - on the lower row are two studies of fred fixler heads ( i'm pretty sure fred did them or one of his students.. ok they could be by glen o ?)..
juliana in repose - from life
a group of gestures - juliana and another model..

I think my work is too old fashioned perhaps for CA ?

A few new things with my students at the Academy of ARt.. The painting I did at a workshop with Kerry Dunn in Florida - took my Mom as a Christmas present and we painted together - super fun..

Everything here is from the live model. all drawings are on smooth newsprint with charcoal pencils.

most of the poses were 10-20 and the gestures were two minutes..

thank you for looking and - keep drawing!

    -Kevin

if by "old-fashioned" you mean "super awesome and refined", then yes, your work is too "old-fashioned" for here. brilliant stuff man, it's what keeps me coming.

This work and sketchbook is a real source of inspiration!
Toss that 'old fashioned' concern right out the window, the energy and the way you handle the light in your work is outstanding, at least in my humble opinion
