    movie and/or video game soundtracks

Anyone listen to soundtracks? Which are your favorites? Have any favorite composers?

One of the best composers is Jerry Goldsmith. It's remarkable how much his style changes for each movie. He's done a lot of famous movies but until I looked him up on Wikipedia I never would have guessed all of those movies were scored by the same person.

    Secrets of NIMH

    The Omen

Probably my favorite composer is Howard Shore, because his music tends to stick in my head. This one LOTR song stuck in my head for years after I heard it, but I couldn't remember what movie it was from until recently.

I really like this one, but I've never seen the movie it's from.

    Some good calls here!

One of my favourites is the 12 Monkeys soundtrack by Paul Buckmaster. Good stuff, cool film.

Yasunori Mitsuda composed the music for CC (and he was part of the team which composed Chrono Trigger's). He is probably one of my favourite video game composers of all time. His work in Xenosaga Episode 1 is my favourite. Speaking of which, Xenosaga's music is pretty memorable all around, though Yuki Kajiura composed Episode 2 and 3's.

    EDIT: Yuki, not Yuji

I do like scores, for both film/tv and games. Here's a few faves to add (some are already up there heh):

Michael Bross - Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath (beautiful)
Bear McCreary - Battlestar Galactica Seasons 1-4 - incredibly good for a television series
Thomas Newman - Finding Nemo, The Shawshank Redemption, A Series of Unfortunate Events, American Beauty, The Green Mile, WALL-E
    Don Davis - The Matrix
Craig Armstrong - The Incredible Hulk (was surprisingly good)
Hans Zimmer - Gladiator, The Last Samurai, Batman Begins/The Dark Knight (also with James Newton Howard)
John Powell - The Bourne Identity/Supremacy/Ultimatum
Howard Shore - The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
    Martin O'Donnell & Michael Salvatori - Halo 1/2/3
Harry Gregson-Williams - Metal Gear Solid 2/3/4 (with Nobuko Toda), The Chronicles of Narnia
James Horner - Aliens, Enemy at the Gates, An American Tail
James Newton Howard - Snow Falling on Cedars, Hidalgo, Unbreakable, King Kong, Batman Begins/The Dark Knight (w/Zimmer)

The Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Soundtrack by Amon Tobin is the album that got me into electronic music. It's rather epic.

There's quite a few soundtracks I love. But there's also some songs that are just attached to certain shows or games. Ok, some of these aren't necessarily made exclusively for the movie/show/game, but when people hear them, they think of the show/game/movie they were in. Okay it's hard to describe but you know what I mean

    Cowboy Bebop

    Avatar The Last Airbender

    28 Weeks Later

Massive Attack-Teardrop (as seen on the Assassin's Creed commercial and the beginning of House)

    Mirrors Edge

    Gears Of War 2

The song from the end of the Mortal Kombat movie

sorry I hope I didn't overdo it with the movies

Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die

hmmmm I haven't heard that or seen the movie. I'll check it out. I'm a fan of Mogwai despite them being IMO the most overrated Post-Rock group.

Well Sigur Rós is used pretty often in movies and stuff.

Their own Heima... that (movie and) soundtrack's amazing.

They were also used in the E3 commercial for Prince of Persia:

And they had a few songs in the movie Vanilla Sky.

Lately I've been listening to the soundtrack of Starcraft. Good, moody, fairly unobtrusive music, and it brings back lots of good memories of mining crystals and spawning zerglings.

I second this. If anyone's interested, you can download Castlevania music on the multimedia page of the Castlevania Dungeon: link. If you're a fan of the series, visit that page. It's a goldmine, with both the original music from the games and orchestral and electric guitar remixes. It's awesome.

Chrono Cross soundtrack is my all time favourite.

For movies there is so many sountrack I love that it would be hard to list it all.

It's much easier with game sountracks.

Thief: Deadly Shadows - Eric Brosius - Sort of dark ambient that perfectly supports the mood of sneaking in the shadows.

    Homeworld 2

Perihelion: the Prophecy - Zoltan Vegh - I love everything about this old game but without this sountrack it wouldn't kick ass so much. There is no youtube link but you can download .mod files from here - http://www.psygnosis.org/games/perihelion/

    For movies, Danny Elfman.

For video games, I like a lot of stuff stuff by Koji Kondo (Mario, Zelda, etc.) and Kenji Yamamoto (Metroid). Also I'll agree with iolarnula and say Harry Gregson-Williams' work on the MGS series as well. My favourite song from the whole thing would be the MGS3 version of the main theme:

My favourite part starts around the 3 minute mark.
