I'm slow (haven't been on CA in months-maybe even a year) and don't feel like reading through 10 pages. is it too late to join? and if it's not, when is the deadline for this?

You're in. We're still arguing a few fine points in the Challenge area. Go there.

Arkady, where did you breeze in from?!

The details so far as I think anyone knows at the moment is the polls close in a couple more days, then you have ten weeks to complete your piece for whatever the winning topic is from the opposite gender. No official sign-ups, so just get a piece in by the due date and you're good.

Winners are then chosen in each group by public poll (guys are judged by the girls and girls by the guys), then the top 5 or so from each have those same pieces put into either one mass public poll or a gender-balanced panel of judges for the final verdict.

    basically.

10 weeks from the 24th? so does this mean the entries are due April 4th?

    Sorry for the confusion, Amish...

The reason I waffled there was because some of us have been talking about cutting it to nine weeks as a REMOTE possibility just to prevent any interference at all with the CA Workshop... Those attending the workshop obviously can get theirs in before they leave, but it does give everybody else almost an extra two-week's edge.

I'm prone to limiting it to nine weeks at this point (one week roughly before April 4th) but haven't hashed all the details out with alesoun and jason R yet.

Either way, let's be honest here, anybody who can't get a single decent image together in 7-8-9 weeks, even with RL interference, should go looking for another area of work...

Agreed. I was really surprised with the 10 week deadline actually. As Mr. Palumbo so eloquently put it, 10 weeks is a "retarded amount of time" to get this done. That's more time than the first round of the recent Last Man Standing competition for goodness sake, and even THAT was pushed back constantly.

I'm all for dialing back the due date.

sorry, but I think that's a bullshit reason. We all have things going on in our lives: work, school, travel, significant others, family emergencies, etc. Nobody would expect a deadline change because they had a business trip right near the end or a vacation planned or anything like that.

If you guys feel 10 weeks is just too long, then that's one thing. I've already mentioned that it's extremely generous, though it does make it easier for those starting back to school or in a deadline crunch. But planning your work to fit around events and classes and that sort of thing is just part of the game in this business and I don't see why there should be a deadline cut for that reason.

I have a deadline around that time so if I do participate I would have to finish this off by early March. But I think it's doable.

Yeah I'm with Dave. I'm going on a trip AND I'm moving apartments + of course, actual work deadlines, all right in the middle of the whole TD duration, so the last couple of weeks is actually the only time I've got to get my entry done. Yet I'm not asking for everyone to start then too am I?

    Ladies and Gentlemen...

I have good news and I have bad news...

The good news is that we have over a hundred people ready to kill each other and from the looks of the polls, two pretty much confirmed nice topics to go with.

    The bad news is...

Due to just finding out about the high probability of A MAJOR TD starting in less than three weeks--and I mean MAJOR--we are going to have to drastically cut our deadline back to only FOUR (4) weeks from our original 8-10. Every other possibility we looked at meant either stalling off our TD for at least a couple of months, or canceling it completely. Neither felt right to me, so we're going ahead with our plans, but...

NOW WE HAVE A REAL WAR! The two sides will have ONLY roughly 4 weeks to get their entries in, and there IS NO HOPE of an extension.

We understand that this is a major change late in the game, but we've been working back and forth to resolve this now for three days, and this is the best we could come up with. I will have no problem with anyone who has to drop out because of RL problems, but those of you who do go for it, this will be a true test of pressure and competence that you can truly be proud of if you finish.

[This is being posted in every thread that deals with the TD to make sure everyone sees it. As I said above, there shouldn't be any embarrassment over having to drop out because of the drastic changes we had to make to the deadline. Our apologies for having to do it.]

    well... balls.

I'll try to hang in. I've got a good idea for the leading topic that I'd really like to do if possible, but that does not agree too well with my work load

I'm guessing that probably knocks out a good portion of our student participants as well...

yeah, looking at my calendar, four weeks from now is pretty much impossible for me. Is there a reason that these can't run parallel? This isn't even any sort of official TD. Or are you worried that people will lose interest in this one when the top secret a-bomb of a TD is announced?
