    Constructive criticism needed

Hi guys, its been a while. Last time I posted was about 2 years ago. While I have improved in the meantime (and started using a different style), I still feel like I am not good enough to show my work in here... Anyways, I feel this is definitely the best place to receive good criticism and even though my skill might not be like many of you, if I never show my stuff and get criticized, I wont get better, ey?

So, be honest, thorough and be sure to dissect the entire piece. Tips/tricks/techniques/tutorials on what is lacking are well appreciated (even I might not have the time for it).

The first one is called "Monster above the bed" (I misnamed the file I see); this was my first piece experimenting with a (for me) new style a few months ago. The second one I did for a Christmas card recently.

Well I think they are just darling and you should not be hesitant to share them with us. The first one reminds me of Monster Inc and the little girl Boo. I loved that movie. The second one reminds me strangly enough of the video game BanjoKazoowie - there was a snowman level in that one, hahaha.

Overall they remind me of early 1960s style TV cartoons. Your composition and perspective are strong. Your colors are bright and appealing and your level of contrast is nice. If anything you could work on lighting, specifically your light source. I know that lighting can be a bit** but it has to be done hahahah. Good luck!

Thanks! I never would have guessed that the composition/perspective would be good; for the longest time I found those to be my weakspots (and I still think so). As for lighting, thanks, I will keep that in mind for the next one!

Love these images, so different to anything else I have seen on this sight. Really nicely done.

The shadow monster thing, is particularly good.

As for criticism, as a novice I dont think I can justifiably mention anything, and I'm sure Razorleaf hit the nail on the head. Just wanted to show my appreciation.
