rogerb - Haha, I intend to do more, I might leave the next pencil sp till I get a new mirror though, my back cant take being hunched like that for that long!
Haha really? I bet they drew the head though :p
I do need to do more, so you should continue to nag me if you don't mind!
    Peeeeeace

AlexTooth - Thanks man, those two are my favourite of what I've done recently. I was a bit worried about the palette on the image with the girl so I'm glad you like it.

NickyBeats - Thanks dude, there should be more though!!

Not much today, won't bother making excuses. But started my 1st colour selfportrait today, this is where I'm at like 4 hours in. It took me ages to get the basic structure right, and had to change the lighting like an hour in as the orange 2nd light was giving me some real trouble.

Will hopefully get to finish it tomorrow, if not I'll start another one, my colour sucks so must persevere!

    Peace
    Dan

I love the color portrait, its awsome u brought in so much color!
    Thats rly great!
I know reallife lightning can be a bitch especially when theres sun and clouds and a lot of wind!.. that makes it so difficult!
But hey! you did a great job so far!
Just keep trying these once every few days, then ull notice how much you will improve in faces structure, colors and especially speed i think.

I told you about the zombie on msn!
    Great going anyway man!

    Go and finish it!

    Keep it up!

Pose is stiff on the last one and the head anatomy needs work, a bigger value curve will help too.
    the portrait is awesome

Keep up, and don't disappear completely in the uni work, aye?

NickyBeats - Thanks, yeah I was planning on finishing him up but my uni course is back in full swing now so I don't think I'll have time, I did work on it more from the last one posted here but it doesn't look significantly different enough to post :p. Haha, played out ideas are the way forward!!!

Rogier - Thank you good sir, natural lighting is indeed a bitch! haha. I shall do them whenever I can, I've got a few caricatures in the works so they may have to substitute as my colour practice till I have more time for life ones

Mark - I made it stiff and unnatural on purpose, because he's a zombie! so he's dead! But if it's not reading like that then I have clearly failed haha! Oh well, was only a quicky. I shall try not to get lost in my sea of work.

Uni projects are back in full swing, I have a lot to do and not a lot of time to do it. This was a caricature sketch I did as a practice for one of my final images in uni this afternoon. I think it's a bit flat but I'm pretty happy with it. Hopefully it's obvious who it is, but just in case it was supposed t be Simon Cowell, the horrible bastard from those singing talent show things.

    Later
    Dan

Thanks Roger, I know what you mean about it being more goofy, hopefully as I learn a bit more about caricature I can get sillier with them!

Few sketches and stuff, plus a wip. It seems I dislike drawing both eyes? weird haha

Is the other caricature Alan Sugar? I went to school with Simon Cowell for a short time and don't remember him at all.

I didn't think it was possible to be called an artist when you have nothing to say. It's like being a writer who publishes individual words as books and expects to be praised for it.

Rogier - I'm glad you can tell who it was, if I was doing a final I'd try to make him look like more of the dick that he is, but these wee just some sketches to see if I could actually do a caricature haha

Blackspot - Yes it is, but I'm not happy enough with them yet to have a go at a final one. Really, how random haha

    Mark - Thanks man

Quick character sketch for an illustration I've started working on. I know it's nothing new or groundbreaking but I still kind of like it. He's an imaginary friend!

    Peace
    Dan

    str4yk1tt3n, Longxiang, Rushlord thank you!

Roughing out the kid character as well, these will end up in an illustration but I wanted to finalize the characters first just to try and avoid any potential difficulties.
Pretty happy with the way the kid turned out as it's not my usual style.

    Peace

wait WHAT??! we share the exact same imaginary friend.... that fucking traitor. im going to imagine a horrific fate for that hairy bastard!

that comp. w/ the little girl, w/ the highlight across her eyes looks very interesting. id like to see that one built up some more. also, i really love this imaginary dude!! very cool ha. you HAVE to color him up. would look very cool with like a pixar feel to the painting. very saturated, very crisp, and very convincing lighting. 3 good ingredients for a boss painting. and YES, i just said BOSS. (im bringing it back...)

    keep going dan!!!

Vatsel - I know man, they weren't supposed to be anything final, just little sketches to refer back to when I use them in an illustration. They shall be pushed as far as possible in that! Thank you squire

    RBeek - haha, I'm trying!!

AlexTooth - haha, probably the only time the notion of multiple cowells has ever been considered a good thing :p. Thanks man

NickyBeats - That hairy little ! haha thanks man, the pixar-esque thing is exactly what I'm thinking as well, we shall see if I can actually pull it off though :p

Some updates on stuff, some sketches, and some WIP's.
The stretch guy is obviously out of proportion, but I wasn't in the mood for trying to be too accurate.
The selfportrait was a complete failure, feature placement is terrible, only the hair nose and mouth give ay kind of suggestion it's supposed to be me :p. Painted using a broken mirror, whether it's broken due to my appearance I'll leave up to your imagination...
Speaking of imagination....(see what I did there) the imaginary friend image is still in the blocking in of colours stage, this does not represent the final render.
Cowboy sketch is just that really, a sketch, and Simon Cowell is still a cock.

    Peace
    Dan

u know what just happend.. i clicked user CP .. then i saw my subscribed threads and saw u updated.. then i said to myself .. Oh my god.. very soft.. cuz people are sleeping here...

Then i clicked the page open, scrolled down.. and YELLED OH MYYY LOOORRRDDD LOOORDDD MY OHH!... ?

Im joking ofcourse.. i said oh my god..

anyway,, that first sketch is lookin freakin cool hahah XD even with the stretched limbs
it could maybe be used for some illu some day..
And then im heading over to your SP .. and im gonna disagree with you.. i think it looks quite good
I dont know how you look but im sure the mirror cracked by itself, and its definatly not a bad SP !!!
On the scary little girl id say the lighted stuff glows out more.. im a whiner..
i told you this a few more times... if you tried it and doesnt look alright then no problem!
Cuz u have more light experience than me! So do what you like best!
I think it looks quite freaky anyway

now heading over to your cow boy. and this one will be short and simple..
IMO: lose the second arm and make the gun point the sam direction as the underarm does..
Pose becomes stronger, character becomes stronger/cooler... atleast thats what i think..
*maybe you can draw the second arm behind him.. maybe*

Simon is indeed a cock.. i freakin like it though..the skin tones look so awsome.. u should always paint in color from now.. its awsome

and the imaginaryfriend piece is heading in a good direction though i feel like you just mirrored it ? .. (from the one you send me over msn )
i would go for a darker side on the right but you are still workin on it so ill leave it for now

    Awsome updiddy man,, thanks!
    Hope thie helps

    Peace OUT BROTTAH

Hee! That SP is very Heathcliff-ish, brooding or what, doesn't matter.

SC is looking good. My best mate from school remembers him as a total pratt.

The imaginary friend is coming along; he looks so worried.

Hey some nice work. I like the direction where you go with those caricatures and I can see progress in the rendering. Here and there are some problems with the highlights, especially in the caricature from last post. I can't put my fingere on it but maybe try to make them a bit softer and in some parts there is too much grey in them. But overall you did a good job Keep it up!

Thanks for the comments everyone, I'm feeling ill so I'm going to be lazy and not do individual responses this time, but I really appreciate what everyone has to say!

Lots of Self portraits, they seem to be getting worse
an artist study portrait thing, thats too dark
    and some other stuff

    destroy please!

hey Dan! i think your self portraits are improving with each one, improvement also has alot to do with your emotional state of mind too, so stuff like "ah crap these are getting worse and worse" is only gonna hurt your progress. if you think to yourself, "ok. ive finished up another one, im gonna get fucking AWESOME with these soon!" youll eventually get better. thats a fact jack! but, imo your improving steady anyway. oh, and these coppers are awesome man! haha they look great.
