    A beginner's sketchbook

I'm pretty new to art altogether, and only started any form of digital art a week ago, so apologies for the quality of my work. I've seen the amazing quality of much of the art here, so really I'm just after advice and critique to get better, not to show off my art.
Most of my art recently has been on my Wacom Bamboo fun tablet in Photoshop elements 5.0.
Thanks in advance for any critique, advice or comment made on my art. More art to come later.

A modern adaptation of Dali's melting clocks. I really didn't spend enough time on the background.

More space art. I'm not much good at it, because I just started a couple of days ago.

I've been advised to do some still life art in traditional art, which I have done. But since I can't upload it yet (no scanner) I'll put up some still life type painting done with my tablet (painter and PS E) from memory (I didn't use the actual object as a reference).

I got Apophysis just now, so I've added a more interesting background.

Keep it up! ^_^ Draw, draw, draw because that's the best way to learn and improve.

One recommendation I would make...if you want to keep practicing color here and there it's fine, but for now focus more on working in black and white. Spend some time focusing on forms, line quality, etc... and then get back into color, because color obviously adds a lot more difficulty!

hey, well you have a really good start. I really like the space scenes. My advice to you would be to sketch any and all objects you see around you, even though your into digital art you'll be amazed on how much drawing from life will help you. And if your already doing that, well good job! and dont stop. Im some what of a beginner myself, good luck!

    Sketchbook

    God Bless

This is the latest version of the planet scene.
(Edit-even more recent. I've removed the over saturated blue atmosphere)

Just a quick piece, since I've been neglecting this sketchbook.

Photoshop elements 5.0 and Apophysis 2.02.

I posted this way too soon after "finishing" it. I just noticed a number of glaring errors with it. Including the massive lack of care with which I drew the guy, while most of him is concealed beneath a hoodie and jeans, he still lacks hands. Will be re submitted when I've fixed it up.

Hey mate, off to a good start I think, and just getting used to using brushes and settings which is great. I agree with Aphotic phoenix, really get into your black and with values to start with, it will definately bring you up to speed faster and I don't think I'm alone in saying it often looks just as good as color. Also remember that the best finished works tend to start off with a well thought out and accurate line sketch. Just rough out whatever you want and keep adding layers until your lines are nice and tight, that will prevent any odd looking rush jobs that can really bring down what would otherwise be a solid looking and complete piece. Stay at it dude, everyday!

Also, slightly fixed version attached. It's now named "Solitude".
(another edit, this time with his arms made more natural. He is supposed to be facing roughly towards the planet/stars)
