I prefer your charcoals/pencils to your marker/pen drawings, your charcoals show a great deal of confidence that I can't really find in your pen drawings.

How long do you spend on such a charcoal portrait?

oh and, 5 stars & bookmarked

So good... the lines with the flat areas of color makes for some really crisp, eye-catching stuff. Do you have any project stuff to show along with all these sketches and studies?

    Keep posting.

oh wow, you know what you're doing, graphically and figuratively, this is a really refreshing site here. and all this stuff is in pen?? holy shit. you don't retry a stroke anywhere it looks like, and the drawings are still really really good. 5 star

Cool stuff Slobosaur, I see a lot of potential here. Some of you're guerilla sketches show great economy of line, especially in the clothed people, cars, lamp-post etc.

You're dry media life drawing has great energy and like Saa said, great fluency.
The ink life drawing doesn't have the same confidence though... which way do you want to go with it, loose and gestural(you might want to try a ballpoint pen or a refillable brush pen, filled with gray wash) or concise and economical? Alex Toth as well as all the Disney artists are great examples of how to use line within the figure clearly. What does the line mean? The addition of the nipples in those last couple of drawings gives clarity but flattens them at the same time. What are the uses of line? Overlap? Plane breaks? Silhouette? Color separations? That's up to you.

Mark Kennedy explains all this and more way better than could:

Hey man, nice oils. I like that you play with strong saturation and hues, would be interesting to see how you'd handle a portrait. Post #27 is great, I think you're on to something with this direction.

Your patterny doodles are great and the first 2 pages of your moleskine excel. That face/sp? is awesomely disturbing, and the grumpy rabbit in a hoody is sweet.

Thanks for sharing, love those contour drawings! Sort of an 70's - 80's illustration vibe around your work.

Great stuff, I really admire your ability to carve things down to essential planes and lines- it's minimal but it gives me a very clear sense of the structure and identity of each figure. Do you look first and make some choices about what those essential visual moments are before you put pencil to paper or is it all simultaneous?
