Those Bridgeman studies are awesome.. so you said the paper you used was brown parcel paper, but what are the pencils? Just regular graphite and white colored pencil or what? I really like the texture/color scheme that combination gives and want to give it a shot!

polarRook- Hay glad you like, Yeah there on brown parcel paper (the lighter colour) and I just use regular graphite and chalk or white pencil for the hight-lights.
Thanks for stopping by again, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

    ThanksALot,

Not sure how well they'll scan but it's worth a shot! I think incorporating the white for highlights would really help me out. There will definitely be something up later this week!

    Cheers all,
Just a small update, a real quick photo study, (5-6 min I think) Wow my values suck, but I suppose more of these will help.
A quick caricature (ment to look like Seth Rogen, but I know it doesn't), and I went all Clochette with some colours, She's got a really good Step by step for those how havint seen it http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...118282&page=32-
Mine looks like crap, but had a great time doing them, no wonder her stuff always looks so much fun! love ya Clochette!

Mischeviouslittleelf- Hay cheers mate, Yeah I've really tried to get my shit together this year.

Grandmassa Mr. Spect- Well thanks again man, really apppshiated(spell check), lol

paperX- Thanks again dude, cheers for the crit and advice, no black aye? I'll try.

WhiteC- Thanks very much White, glad you dig, and yeah the paint does stay wet if you put in on thick, but if you don't want your paints to mix you can just create on a new layer.

snootchy - Cheers man, yeah I'll have to give that a try.

    Mmm...
So I need some help on this weeks Teen challenge, "Currahee!" (Stand Alone).
I've got an idea I like (even if it's not a very original one), But I'm really struggling with the layout/composition.
Any help would be really appreciated.
    cheers

I'd really try and adjust it so you have a clear focal point. I think someone mentioned above trying to make visual pathways to the focal point. I'm not sure of a good example but perhaps employing some perspective techniques to make the picture more dynamic. Adjusting the mountain range to flow towards him, making the grass create lines leading to the focal point.

I guess make sure you make your eyes move around the page.

Composition really just depends on whether or not you find something visually appealing. In the Loomis book "Creative Illustation" there's a whole thing on composition.

Try some thumbnails in different layouts with the same idea, pick the one you like the most and develop that one.

These are all just things I've read haha. I'm sure a lot of other people have advice on composition that's much better

nice character in the portraits dude. The main thing i see is that your figures haven't got much of a sense of mass. I tihnk you need to sling your shoulders more to get them a bit more planted. Think of the shoulders in relation to the hips and how that effects the head spines and finally the legs. Thats your plum line!

if you want to composite or layout the illustration better; i'd say to thumbnail like crazy very loosely to get it out of your system what u might have in mind, also based off the last post you should do progressive drawings or shots like zooming or using the viewfinder to see where in that shot can it be the most interesting. start to think from the viewer's eye, whether they're looking up at the character and gives the piece a 3 point perspective view etc

these are all things to think about when compositing, as well as interesting lighting, whether it be dramatic, ambient, underlit, and so on

    gluck yo!

the last one looks pretty interesting. Hmmmm...but im not sure if the shadowing on the closest helmets are dark enough. Could be my imagination though.

would also like to say that i like the acrylic paintings that you made ^_^

I like the birdy the best.

My observational skills may be great but i said nothing about my drawing skills
